The View’s Joy Behar says election fraud never came up before Trump

The View co-host Joy Behar argued that concerns about widespread voter fraud did not become a major issue in American politics until President Donald Trump began raising them after his loss in the 2020 presidential election.

Behar dismissed the notion, noting that historical evidence does not support such claims. “For the 10,000 years that I’ve been on this planet, this has never come up before,” Behar said during the “Hot Topics” segment Tuesday.

Election integrity has remained a flashpoint in American politics since the 2020 election, when Trump challenged the results after losing to former President Joe Biden. Trump and his allies alleged widespread voter fraud and election irregularities in multiple battleground states.

Courts, state election officials, and multiple investigations have found no proof of fraud on a scale that would have altered the election’s outcome, though Republicans have continued to push for tighter voting laws and election security measures in response to concerns about the voting process. In a highly anticipated address to the nation last Thursday, Trump alleged the “deep state” suppressed Chinese attempts to meddle in the 2020 election.

The View hosts argued that Americans should trust the U.S. election system, dismissing claims of widespread voter fraud as virtually nonexistent and warning that losing faith in elections is “really dangerous.”

“It is really dangerous for us to lose faith in elections,” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said. “States administer elections. They’re still done at the state level. Attorneys general and states’ governors are getting ready for any kind of things and shenanigans that might happen. We have to show up, and we have to trust our elections.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin also argued there is little evidence of widespread voter fraud, dismissing it as a largely nonexistent issue.

“There’s no real evidence of election fraud,” Hostin said. “It’s like, it’s 0.003%. It just doesn’t exist. It’s a non-issue. And you’re right, it’s not something that’s ever come up before.”
