A member of Vice President JD Vance’s Secret Service detail has been placed under investigation for allegedly compromising informational and operational security, the Secret Service confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
The Secret Service agent is suspected of leaking information to MS Now for a report claiming the vice president’s personal travel plans have been frustrating for his security detail, according to multiple reports. The MS Now report, published in mid-July, included details regarding the vice president’s then-upcoming travel plans to fly via helicopter with his son to a golf lesson at Joint Base Andrews, a plan that the outlet said was subsequently changed after the release of their report.
“A member of the Vice Presidential Protective Division is the subject of an administrative investigation, and potential criminal inquiry, involving allegations of compromising operational and information security,” Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi shared in a statement.
“While we will not comment on the specifics of this matter, one principle is unequivocal: any conduct that potentially threatens the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated,” Guglielmi said.
CNN reported that the agent has been put on administrative leave during the investigation.
A senior administration official told the Washington Examiner that flying by helicopter to Joint Base Andrews, which has its own golf facility, allows the vice president and his young child to fly to a secure base without affecting a public course or closing streets and drawing law enforcement resources for a motorcade. They said the Marine Two flight from the vice president’s residence to Joint Base Andrews is one of the most common, routine helicopter rides for Marine Two.
The vice president and second lady Usha Vance spoke on the issue of the disruption motorcades can have, particularly when they attend Catholic mass, and how they seek to mitigate that in an interview on CBS’s Sunday Morning.
“We try to go to smaller churches and we try to get there exactly on time, because if we get there 10 minutes earlier, then they mag everybody, and then it’s just a nightmare for everybody else,” Vance said. “So you try to obviously take your kids to church, but you also try to do it in a way that doesn’t inconvenience everybody. That’s very important to us.”
The investigation into the agent comes as Secret Service leadership warned about the record level of threats against its protectees this year. The agency said it has handled a record 10,000 threat-related cases so far in 2026, about 40% higher than the number of threats handled last year.
“The environment has become very volatile, and that’s just across the board,” Secret Service Director Sean Curran said. “The threat picture and environment is as large as I’ve ever seen it.”

The news also comes just one week after a White House teleprompter staffer was put on unpaid administrative leave as he is being investigated for using privileged information to place bets on a prediction market platform.
The vice president’s office declined to comment and referred the Washington Examiner to the Secret Service.
