White House Blasts ‘Out-Of-Touch’ John Mellencamp For Mid-Concert Jab At President Trump

Even though several big-name celebrities have spoken out against the trend, there’s still a string of entertainers willing to alienate much of their respective fan bases in order to score some political points.

One recent example involves John Mellencamp, who reportedly interrupted a performance of his hit “Pink Houses” during a recent concert so he could take a cheap shot at President Donald Trump’s decision to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

But the Trump White House was paying attention and issued a reaction, according to the New York Post:

On Monday, Davis Ingle, WH Spokesman, shared a statement with Fox News Digital. “Nobody in their right mind cares what out-of-touch, woke Hollywood celebrities have to say,” Ingle said.

As part of his “Dancing Words” Tour, Mellencamp was singing the first few verses of his hit “Pink Houses,” before he addressed the crowd directly.

“Well, there’s people and more people/ What do they know, know, know?/ Go to work in some high rise/ And vacation down at the Gulf of Mexico,” the rock icon sang before adding, “Wait a minute,” according to USA Today.

While Mellencamp’s band kept playing, the musician said sarcastically, “The Gulf of Mexico? Is that right? It’s not the Gulf of America? What a stupid f–—-g idea.”

The remark also drew some criticism on social media:

“My job in the live music world is just [to have] those people that come have the best time they possibly can. And for two hours or whatever it is, to forget all their problems and the problems of the world and their mortgages and their whatever,” Jagger, 82, said. “It’s similar to going to a sports event, really. You’re just watching [to see] who’s going to win. You know, you’re not worrying about everything else.”

The rock icon said that for some audiences, that means getting rowdy, while in others, the energy is calmer. Regardless, the goal is to make sure “they’re having a good time” and not “lecture them.”
