President Donald Trump continues to command historically strong support within the Republican Party as he settles into his second term, according to new polling highlighted by CNN data analyst Harry Enten.
During Wednesday’s segment, Enten pointed to Trump’s standing among Republican voters compared to other presidents this century, arguing that no modern president has maintained stronger approval from members of his own party at this stage of a second term.
“Trump is still very popular with Republicans,” Enten said while presenting the data. “Just take a look here. Twenty-first century own-party approval rating about at this point in the second term. We’ve got Trump, we’ve got Obama, we’ve got Bush.”
Although all three presidents enjoyed strong backing from their respective parties, Enten noted that Trump’s numbers stand apart.
“They’re all fairly popular, but the one who is the most popular, and we have seen this time and time out, no matter when you look, is Donald John Trump,” Enten said. “He’s the only one who’s over 80%.”

According to the polling cited by CNN, 83% of Republicans approve of the job Trump is doing as president. That places him ahead of both former President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush at comparable points in their presidencies.
“Eighty-three percent of Republicans still approve of the job that Donald Trump is doing as president,” Enten said. “He still has that magic touch.”
The strong support comes as Trump continues advancing his second-term agenda while Republicans prepare for another election cycle. Historically, presidents often rely on high levels of support within their own party to help drive turnout, influence primary contests and rally backing for major legislative priorities.
Enten suggested Trump’s popularity has already translated into political success inside the Republican Party, pointing to this year’s primary elections as evidence that his influence remains significant.
“We’ll see if it carries over to South Carolina, but we’ve seen it in primaries this year,” Enten said.
Trump’s standing among Republicans has remained remarkably resilient despite years of legal battles, political attacks and intense media scrutiny. Throughout his political career, he has consistently maintained approval ratings within the GOP that have exceeded those of many recent presidents.
While Trump’s overall national approval rating remains more divided along partisan lines, the CNN analysis underscores the strength of his support among Republican voters, who continue to view him favorably well into his second term.
Enten concluded that Trump’s bond with the Republican base remains historically strong.
“That’s because he is still a very popular man, historically popular when it comes to his own party liking and approving of the job that he’s doing,” he said.
