Country Singer’s Mom Killed In Home Invasion

A tragedy has occurred in Shenandoah Valley.

The mother of a country music singer was killed in a home invasion in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia.

Country music singer Spencer Hatcher’s mother, Holly Hatcher, was killed in a home invasion on August 3.

The suspect was identified as Kevin Moses Walker, who was killed during the home invasion by Spencer’s father, Michael.

Fox News reported more on the murder and the connection the killer had to Holly Hatcher:

The mother of an aspiring country star died in a home invasion stabbing in the family’s home in Virginia’s historic Shenandoah Valley before his father, who was also injured in the attack, grabbed a handgun and fatally shot the attacker, according to local authorities.

The intruder killed Holly Hatcher, a 62-year-old former teacher, before her husband, Michael Hatcher, 65, fired the fatal shot around midnight on Sunday, Aug. 3. Their 31-year-old son Spencer Hatcher, an up-and-coming country crooner, canceled several upcoming shows as his family deals with his mother’s death.

“Speaking personally, this is 31 years in law enforcement for me, I have never seen anything like this in my entire career, just the way the unusual, unique and just crazy situation that this turned out to be,” Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said in a video posted to the department’s Facebook page.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased suspect as 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker of Pikesville, Maryland, who had no known criminal history, violent or otherwise, aside from a bizarre car crash just two days before the home invasion.

Hutcheson, who said he’s known the family for years, revealed a personal connection to Holly Hatcher.

“My oldest son had Holly as a teacher in school, absolutely loved her, and I’m sure I can speak for many, many other children she taught over the years as to what a wonderful, wonderful teacher and influence on their life that she was,” he said.

E! Online reported more details on the tragedy:

The intruder—later identified by police as 41-year-old Kevin Walker—entered the home and fatally stabbed Holly, a local schoolteacher, before attacking her husband Michael Hatcher, according to Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson. During the altercation, Michael, 65, was able to retrieve a handgun from his car and fire a single shot at Walker, killing the attacker.

When police responded to an emergency call and arrived on the scene, they discovered Michael “suffering from visible injury” that he sustained from the altercation.

“There’s no way for you to know the trauma and the pain and the unanswered questions that I have had [and] that my three sons, Dane, Spencer and Connor have had,” Michael said in the Aug. 7 video statement while sporting a bandage on his right forearm. “Each of you have made it much more bearable through your outpouring of love and your caring and your kindness and support to all of us, and for that, I thank you so much.”

Authorities confirmed that no charges would be filed in the case due to the suspect’s death.

“This is a highly unusual, apparently completely random [attack] with an individual with no known history of violent behavior of any kind, or even criminal behavior of any kind,” Hutcheson said. “With 31 years in law enforcement for me, I have never seen anything like it in my entire career.”
