Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani over his comments on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling him “a mayor playing president.”
“This is 2026. People cosplaying as things they don’t have the authority, the talent, or the track record to actually be. Just for content. A mayor playing president. A founder playing operator. A content creator playing one-on-one thinking he’s a pro. A 25yr old with a ring light playing economist. Everyone auditioning. Nobody building,” Kuzma wrote on X.
Kuzma’s remarks follow Mamdani’s renewed criticism of Netanyahu, in which he reiterated his opposition to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
Mamdani previously stated he is actively seeking to arrest Netanyahu during his upcoming visit to New York City in accordance with the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant, while also acknowledging the legal and practical limits of his authority to do so.
Kuzma also criticized what he described as a broader cultural shift toward appearances over achievement, saying, “We’re raising a generation that learning the reward isn’t in doing the thing, it’s in looking like you did the thing. The clip is the career. The pose is the product. The soundbite is the substitute for a life’s work.”

Mamdani has defended his public comments about Netanyahu, calling them “objective facts.” He argues that elected officials have a responsibility to speak out on human rights issues even when they fall outside the traditional responsibilities of municipal government.
Kuzma closed his post with a warning to his followers, saying, “Don’t fall for distractions.”
