U.N. Ambassador Mike Waltz said those who leaked information that the United States was running out of interceptor ammunition should be in jail while also denying the information was true.
Pentagon leakers had revealed to several outlets that the U.S. was running dangerously low on interceptor ammunition, leaving it vulnerable to Iranian drone and missile attacks. A report from the New York Times alleged President Donald Trump had decided against escalating the war against Iran over the U.S.’s low interceptor stockpiles. In an interview on NBC News’s Meet the Press, Waltz denied these reports but also said he wanted the leakers in jail.
“I want to be crystal clear. The U.S. military, and I’ve verified this every which way, has everything that it needs to conduct this campaign as effectively as it needs to be,” he said when asked if he acknowledged interceptor stockpiles were depleted. “And I have to tell you, the people that are leaking this nonsense deserve to be in jail.”
When pressed on whether the Trump administration was looking to put the leakers in jail, Waltz said they had “a number of leak investigations going on.”
“The point is, the U.S. military has conducted a phenomenally successful campaign. We have never, as you know, I’m a veteran by background. We have never maintained this kind of air superiority, sea superiority, with unfettered access over Iran right now,” he added.

Waltz also claimed the supply chain problems were holdovers from the Biden administration and that the stockpiles were depleted due to Biden’s aid to Ukraine and war against the Houthis.
The U.S.’s Gulf allies are reliant on U.S. air defense systems, meaning U.S. suppliers are responsible for refilling both America’s own stockpiles and those of all the Gulf states. Iran has fired hundreds of missiles and thousands of drones since Feb. 28, greatly depleting the U.S.’s interceptor stocks.
