Tragic news has surfaced from Mexico.

The U.S. Ambassador to Mexico has announced that two U.S. embassy personnel have been killed.

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson revealed that the Director of Chihuahua’s State Investigation Agency and an AEI officer (bodyguard) were killed in an accident.

Fox News provided further details on the ambassador’s announcement:

Two U.S. Embassy personnel were killed in what officials described as an “accident” in Mexico, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson announced Sunday.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two U.S. Embassy personnel, the Director of Chihuahua’s State Investigation Agency (AEI), and an AEI officer in this accident. We honor their dedication and tireless efforts to confront one of the greatest challenges of our time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones,” Johnson said in a post on X.

The ambassador also said that the tragedy underscores the risks officials face while carrying out their duties.

“This tragedy is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by those Mexican and U.S. officials who are dedicated to protecting our communities,” he said.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two U.S. Embassy personnel, the Director of Chihuahua’s State Investigation Agency (AEI), and an AEI officer in this accident. We honor their dedication and tireless efforts to confront one of the greatest challenges of our time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones.

This tragedy is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by those Mexican and U.S. officials who are dedicated to protecting our communities. It strengthens our resolve to continue their mission and advance our shared commitment to security and justice, to protect our people.

CNN reported the personnel died in a car accident after conducting an operation:

Two instructors from the United States Embassy in Mexico City and two Mexican agents died on Sunday in a car accident in Chihuahua after an operation targeting a clandestine drug laboratory, authorities said.
The victims were part of Chihuahua’s State Investigation Agency (AEI) and a training program with the US embassy, the state’s attorney general, César Jáuregui Moreno said.

Among the deceased are the AEI regional director, Pedro Ramón Oseguera Cervantes, and his bodyguard, Manuel Genaro Méndez Montes, as well as two instructors from the United States Embassy in Mexico.

The accident occurred on the Chihuahua–Ciudad Juárez highway, when the officials were returning from an operation in the municipality of Morelos, where state authorities dismantled a drug-processing laboratory, according to initial reports.
