President Trump is set to an executive order that will strengthen foster care for children.

The new executive order that President Trump is set to sign alongside First Lady Melania Trump is part of Melania’s “Fostering Our Future” initiative.

The executive order will expand resources for foster care children who our transitioning into adulthood.

News Nation added more details on the executive order:

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order Thursday aimed at expanding resources for teens aging out of the foster care system.

The order aims to support foster youth transitioning to adulthood “by expanding and enhancing access to education, workforce and career development, digital resources, and other supports,” according to the Daily Signal.

Charell Star, a former foster youth and vice president of New York City’s chapter of Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, told “Morning in America” she supports the initiative, saying it’s crucial to help young people leaving foster care avoid homelessness.

“Any attention on the needs of youth who are aging out of care — 20,000 youth age out of care every year — around 50% of them end up homeless,” Star said. “Any awareness, any push to help these youth not end up homeless and have stability in their lives is really important, and something that I support.”

Nearly 400,000 children are in foster care across the United States. Approximately 50% of foster children finish high school, according to the National Foster Youth Institute, and 3% obtain a college degree.

The order is also expected to launch first lady Melania Trump’s “Fostering the Future” initiative, a part of her Be Best initiative, which “secures educational opportunities and scholarships” for children in foster care.

Melania Trump’s website added more details on the initiative that aims to help foster children:

Fostering the Future, a Be Best initiative, secures educational opportunities and scholarships for children in the foster care community. Scholarship recipients will learn in a supportive environment, gaining knowledge critical to realizing job security within the technology sector. By providing access to a computer science education, these individuals will be prepared to enter the workforce and ultimately reach financial independence.

Many children in the foster care community lack the support and stability to finish their education and gain meaningful employment. According to the National Foster Youth Institute, only 50 percent of foster children finish high school, and only three percent of former foster children obtain a college degree. Twenty percent of the children in foster care will become homeless after aging out of the system, and only half will have gainful employment by the age of 24.
