President Trump Highlights ‘Super Technology’ Being Used In ‘Golden Dome’ Defense System

The world has marveled at the efficacy of Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile-defense system, which has kept that nation safe amid countless attacks from its hostile neighbors.

But President Donald Trump revealed this week that his administration is working on something much more capable of protecting the U.S. from such threats.

Creating the “Golden Dome” has long been a goal of the president, and this week he and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth provided the biggest update on the project yet.

According to Axios:

They said the missile shield will be designed to block hypersonic missiles, ICBMs and other projectiles, including nuclear weapons, whether they are launched from the earth’s surface or from space.

Trump said President Reagan had wanted to build something similar during the Cold War “but they didn’t have the technology.” Now, he said, the U.S. has “super technology.”

“This is very important for the success and even survival of our country. It’s a pretty evil world out there,” Trump said.

How it works: At the heart of Golden Dome is a mesh of sensors and spotters and space-based interceptors.

Zoom out: Defense companies have been jockeying for position since Trump signed an executive order in January to pursue it.

Of course, nations that hope to pose a threat to the U.S. weren’t happy to hear about the plans.

According to Fox News:

Golden Dome has a “strong offensive nature and violates the principle of peaceful use in the Outer Space Treaty,” Chinese Foreign Minister Mao Ning said Wednesday.

“The project will heighten the risk of turning space into a war zone and creating a space arms race, and shake the international security and arms control system,” Mao said. “We urge the U.S. to give up developing and deploying global anti-missile system.”

Both China and Russia have placed offensive weapons in space, like anti-satellite capabilities that could potentially be used to try to take the U.S. offline, American intelligence officials have warned.
