While gun-owning Americans can take refuge in the constitutional protections of the Second Amendment, anti-gun leftists have been looking for ways to scale back those rights for generations.
One longstanding example is a 1927 ban on “concealable” firearms, but that restriction took another major hit this week in a move by the US Postal Service.
A memo from the Trump administration’s Justice Department has prompted the USPS to propose a new rule allowing Americans to legally send firearms via the mail.
According to the Daily Caller, the postal service this week closed comments on the proposal, though the reversal still faces challenges from anti-gun activists:
The development attracted significant social media attention:“The statute also imposes significant barriers to shipping constitutionally protected firearms as articles of commerce, which interferes with citizens’ incidental rights to acquire and maintain arms. Indeed, the statute ultimately aims to suppress traffic in constitutionally protected articles thus rendering the law per se unconstitutional as to those articles, and we are aware of no historical analogues that would satisfy the government’s burden of showing that this unprecedented restriction ‘is consistent with the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation,’” the memo continues.
The USPS is now considering whether to publish the final rule after Democratic elected officials and anti-Second Amendment organizations have pushed back. The Justice Department referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to the memo when reached for comment.
Excellent news. Blue states must not be allowed to block our constitutional rights.

And The Hill added these details:How about just requiring an ID and adult signature on delivery. That's way more secure than voting.

Here’s some additional context on the proposal:The National Rifle Association (NRA) praised the decision, claiming that the Postal Service’s “handgun prohibition continues to create massive and needless headaches for law-abiding gun owners.”
Attorneys general from around two dozen states sent a letter on Monday urging the Postal Service to withdraw the proposed rule. They argued that the proposal would make it easier for felons to access handguns.
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford (D) is among those state attorneys general pushing back on the proposed rule, saying that the proposed rule would “make it easier for criminals and abusers to access firearms,” calling it a “slap in the face to gun violence survivors and law enforcement.”
“We cannot ignore the dangerous consequences of this proposed rule, which could open the door for prohibited individuals to obtain weapons without background checks or regard for state firearms laws,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) said in a statement. “This irresponsible loophole blatantly disregards public safety and would create a direct strain on state resources.”
