A showdown between Republican Spencer Pratt and his two Democratic rivals in the Los Angeles mayoral race had more than a few mic-drop moments, but one that attracted particular attention came when the GOP candidate took on the city’s devastating drug problem.

Pratt, a former reality television star whose home burned down in the Palisades fire, used the lax drug policies of both incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and Councilwoman Nithya Raman against them.

Here’s what Fox News reported:

“First off, Inside Safe, I like to say Inside Safe makes all of us outside, unsafe,” Pratt said near the midpoint of the debate.

Inside Safe is a municipal program spearheaded by Bass intended to take people out of homeless encampments and bring them into temporary or permanent indoor housing. A city report found that it spent $300 million on the project, which assisted roughly 6,000 people, 40% of whom have since ended up back on the streets.

“The reality is, no matter how many beds you give these people, they are on super meth,” Pratt continued. “They are on fentanyl. The DEA statistic says 93% of this is a drug addiction problem. I will go below the Harbor Freeway tomorrow with [Raman] and we can find some of these people she’s going to offer treatment for. She’s going to get stabbed in the neck.”
The viral moment attracted significant discussion on social media:

Spencer Pratt Pummels Nithya Raman & Karen Bass for wasting $400 million on homeless failure, dares Ramon to try and give beds to the homeless

“She’d get stabbed in the neck”

Pratt who is surging in the polls in the race for Mayor of Los Angeles, dared City Councilmember Raman to personally go below the Harbor Freeway with him the next day to offer beds and treatment to the homeless, warning she’d get k*lled because these people don’t want beds, they want fentanyl or super meth.

In the Debate Pratt put both Raman and Bass on blast,

“Treatment first, I will go below the Harbor Freeway tomorrow with her and we can find some of these people she’s going to offer treatment for. She’s gonna get stabbed in the neck. These people do not want a bed, they want fentanyl or super meth.”

“These ideas cost us over 400 million dollars to house 3,000 people? For 400 million this absolute failure for both of them, they’re a team.”

Fast Facts:
Areas under LA freeways, including the Harbor, are notorious for open drug use, mental illness, assaults, and stabbings.
LAPD and LA County Sheriff reports document repeated violence.
City and county audits for Inside Safe and LAHSA initiatives under Bass and council allies show massive per-person costs with low permanent housing outcomes.
The $400M slice refers to recent treatment / housing efforts that produced abysmal results.
DEA and LA County coroner data confirm the vast majority of LA’s homeless have severe addiction, with fentanyl and methamphetamine dominating overdose and chronic cases.
Pratt’s “93%” stat of homeless people being criminals addicted to drugs is accurate.
LA reports over 46,000 homeless even though tens of billions have been spent.
Plenty of other moments from the debate got their own social media highlights:

Even some skeptics of Pratt’s mayoral bid were convinced by his performance in this week’s debate, as The Hill reported of former “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush:

“Here’s the thing about Spencer Pratt, he was relentless,” Bush said. “He kept going and he kept going, and the guy has credibility, right? I mean, he came in and said, ‘I’m an outsider,’ and ‘Boy, it’s corrupt,’ and ‘Karen Bass was in Ghana when she should have been in Los Angeles when the city was burning.’”

Bush referred to Bass being part of the U.S. delegation to Ghana President John Mahama’s inauguration in January 2025. Shortly after, she returned to the City of Angels after the massive Palisades and Eaton fires ravaged parts of the region. Pratt’s house burned down in the Palisades fire.

Bush noted Pratt’s previous work on television and called him “a very good communicator.” He looked “relaxed” going against Bass and Raman, Bush said.
