We have one tough White House press secretary.
On Tuesday, President Trump taped an interview with CBS News.
Moments after the interview was finished, Karoline Leavitt was recorded warning the CBS team to make sure they air the full, unedited 13-minute interview — or, else.
Leavitt spoke bluntly, noting that President Trump “said, ‘If it’s not out in full, we’ll sue your ass off!'”

The New York Times was the first to obtain the recording of Leavitt’s — and, really President Trump’s — warning to CBS News about editing the interview.JUST IN: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt delivered a blunt warning straight from President Trump to CBS News anchor Tony Dokoupil and the network’s team: Air the full, unedited 13-minute interview without cuts — or “we’ll sue your a$$ off.” (Audio of the exchange below)
Leavitt: “[Trump] said, ‘Make sure you guys don’t cut the tape, make sure the interview is out in full.”
Tony Dokoupil: “Yeah, we’re doing it, yeah.”
Leavitt: “He said, ‘If it’s not out in full, we’ll sue your a$$ off.’”
Of course, President Trump has already won millions of dollars suing CBS News for editing an interview with Kamala Harris to make her look better.
The NYT article has more:
President Trump’s interview is with CBS News’ new prime-time anchor Tony Dokoupil. In 2024, Mr. Trump did sue CBS over the editing of a “60 Minutes” interview — and the network’s corporate parent paid $16 million to settle the case, even though many legal experts said it had little merit.
Some of the CBS personnel who were there absorbed Ms. Leavitt’s remarks as being in jest, according to a person familiar with their thinking. CBS News aired the full unedited interview that evening, which the network said was its plan all along.
“The moment we booked this interview, we made the independent decision to air it unedited and in its entirety,” CBS News said in a statement on Saturday.
Ms. Leavitt, reached for comment, said: “The American people deserve to watch President Trump’s full interviews, unedited, no cuts. And guess what? The interview ran in full.”
Not long ago, the notion of a White House press secretary’s casually threatening a lawsuit if a journalist does not obey her orders would be shocking.
But Mr. Trump has made abundantly clear that he is serious about pursuing legal or regulatory action against media outlets whose coverage displeases him.
If that name sounds familiar, it’s because a video of Dokoupil apologizing for, basically, being fake news went viral earlier this month.
Full scoop on that here:
Funnily enough, during the interview, President Trump informed Dokoupil that he would have never gotten the new gig if Kamala had won the 2024 presidential election.
Per The New York Post:
CBS News is trying to redeem themselves.During the interview, Trump took a personal swipe at Dokoupil, telling the newly minted anchor he “wouldn’t have a job right now” if former Vice President Kamala Harris had won the 2024 election.
Dokoupil pushed back, saying that “for the record,” he believed he would still be working at CBS regardless of the outcome, prompting Trump to quip the anchor would be earning “a lesser salary.”
To their credit, it does look like they aired the full, unedited interview with President Trump (at risk of another lawsuit.)
