A high-stakes drug smuggling interdiction was captured on video recently.
On the wild waters of the open ocean, the U.S. Coast Guard identified, tracked, and then took down suspected drug smugglers in a matter of moments.
This occurrence is something that is becoming far more common as the elicit land paths crossing in to the United States are becoming more controlled as a result of President Trump’s aggressive immigration policy.
Check out how quickly this small team is able to subdue these smugglers:

Everything from drugs to people are increasingly attempting to come in to the United States by alternate paths since the southern border isn’t as friendly for illegal entry as it was under Biden.
That particular operation took place on April 17th, according to the New York Post:
That clip is part of a longer segment uploaded to YouTube revealing all the critical pieces of tech and hardware that goes in to taking down an illegal smuggling operation on the high seas.A dramatic viral video from the Coast Guard shows service members completing a swift and precise drug interdiction against smugglers in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
Members of the small-boat crew U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Kimball (WMSL 756) conducted the operation on April 17, according to the military branch.
The video, taken by Petty Officer 3rd Class Austin Wiley, shows the Kimball rapidly descending upon the suspected drug smugglers, with the service members barking commands that led to an immediate surrender.
“Hands up!” the service members can be heard yelling in Spanish at the suspects on the alleged smuggling vessel.
They immediately complied.
The crew then boarded the vessel and arrested the suspects.
“The fifth interdiction during Kimball’s patrol is a great example of how complex it is to stop illegal activities on the open ocean,” the Coast Guard said of the video taken by Petty Officer 3rd Class Austin Wiley. “Kimball started with aerial surveillance then engaged tactical law enforcement, and then sank the vessel so it wouldn’t be a hazard to other vessels.”
Here’s that longer video, including additional footage of that interdiction — and more footage for context surrounding that operation:
Check out this video report put out by Homeland Security less than a month after the Trump Administration took the reins:

Now, not only is recruitment in the Coast Guard way up — it is expected to exceed it’s goal for this year, according to a report in Fox News:
Storytime. One branch of the U.S. military is boasting booming recruitment numbers and huge operational success in the infancy of President Donald Trump’s second term in office, according to a Department of Homeland Security memo.
According to the DHS memo obtained by Fox News Digital, the U.S. Coast Guard’s recruitment numbers are thriving, allowing the military branch to maximize the use of assets that were underused or completely abandoned under the Biden administration.
DHS says the Biden administration failed to meet Coast Guard recruiting goals for three years straight. During that period, 10 cutters were taken out of service and almost 30 Coast Guard stations were temporarily abandoned.
“Under the Biden administration, the U.S. Coast Guard had its hands tied behind its back,” the memo says. “Recruitment goals were not met, and our Coast Guardsmen were hamstrung and overwhelmed while cartels smuggled humans and illicit drugs through our maritime borders.”
However, recruitment is now surging, allowing the Coast Guard to execute its mission at its full potential. In FY 2025, the Coast Guard has recruited more than 4,700 new members, which is 1,200 more than it had at this time last year.
It is on pace to exceed its recruitment goal for this year.
The memo says the Coast Guard has already seized 11% more cocaine in FY 2025 than it did in FY 2024, and that since Trump’s inauguration, the military branch has interdicted 148,000 pounds of cocaine and marijuana, worth more than $1.5 billion in street value.
Not only have drugs been seized, but 870 illegal aliens allegedly responsible for trafficking the drugs have been taken into custody since Jan. 20.
Once upon a time, I worked with a good friend who had a buddy from college who worked for the Dept. of Homeland Security doing — you guessed it — ship boarding out in the ocean.
His sole job was interdicting vessels and taking them down.
We may have played a few rounds of “take the 2nd story apartment” to test our skills against his highly trained abilities.
We divided up in two teams of two — each team taking turns between hunkering down in the apartment… with the other team starting out at ground level below the outside stairs in order to TAKE THE APARTMENT.
We used airsoft guns — no humans were ‘seriously’ injured in this story.
To make a long story short, the pro didn’t play by our rules.
While we all predictably came up the stairs, hoping to get ‘lucky’ as we made entry into the apartment through the only doorway… against ‘enemies’ who were entrenched and knew where we would hit them…
The pro proceeded to scale the downspout on the rain gutter which ran right beside the balcony to the second-story apartment, which was on the opposite side of the building as the stairs and the door.
Which put him BEHIND our carefully staked out positions inside the apartment… dutifully watching the door.
He climbed up, shimmied over to the balcony, and made entry BEHIND our fixed positions inside the kitchen and behind the couch — respectively.
He slaughtered us… while his teammate could be heard laughing outside the front door, his only job being to keep us fixated on that door.
The morale of that figurative dream sequence is simply this — these guys know what they’re doing.
And they LOVE keeping America safe.
Thank God we now have a President with an outlook for America’s long-term security and the safety of Americans who will keep professionals like my friend’s buddy — and the guys in this clip — excited about protecting our national sovereignty!
I stumbled on another short clip while researching this story from a few weeks ago showing a similar situation.
Except in this instance, the boat had outrun Mexican and American Coast Guard attempts to stop them days earlier.
In this clip, USBP and CBP step in when they get a shot at this boat — and by shot, I mean a literal shot.
They literally shot out the engine to bring the boat to a halt, according to a post by the current Chief of the US Border Patrol:

We tend to think of smugglers loaded down with external frame packs, trudging through the rough in-between wilderness along the southern border.USBP and CBP Air & Marine Operations (AMO) stopped two suspected smugglers in the open waters of San Diego, CA, after receiving reports from the Mexican Navy about a vessel with two individuals that failed to stop for them and the U.S. Coast Guard a few days prior. Law enforcement attempted to stop the vessel and AGAIN the individuals did not comply. However, undeterred, and very capable, CBP AMO agents successfully disabled the vessel. Both smugglers are now in custody, facing charges for failure to heave (18USC2237) and inadmissible alien (8USC1182).
Even in the open ocean, the border has a line- and we will defend it.
But as that Fox News story detailed, much of the illegal smuggling action comes by sea — and even more now that the border is under our control.
There mere fact that the Coast Guard has ramped up its recruitment purposefully in such a short time is a testament to the forward-thinking prudence of the Trump Administration.
Ineptitude after closing the land border would have failed to recognize the full need of simultaneously taking control of our oceanic approaches.
Last I checked… there’s not a lot of ineptitude within the Trump Administration.
Just a whole lot of people who know what the goals are, and who are sharp enough and skilled enough to make those goals happen.
Winning — I believe that’s what they call it.
