Daughters of the American Revolution Chapters have reached out to President Donald Trump in their fight against the national organization’s decision to allow trans-identifying males into the historic female group.
Labeling themselves Daughters Advocating for Restoration, the Martha Laird Chapter in Texas along with five endorsing chapters in five different states wrote that the DAR has “fallen prey to trans ideology” in a letter to the president obtained by The Daily Wire.
The group called on Trump to “shine a light on what has happened within the ranks of the DAR” following the executive order he signed, which states that the United States will only recognize two genders.
“Being unable to join the Sons of America Revolution, the DAR was founded in 1890 for women, by women,” the letter read, noting the group’s mission to “promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.” “However, National and State leadership have abandoned the moral obligations of this once stalwart and prestigious institution to embrace the transgender movement.”
The letter noted that its national organization has claimed that by “excluding trans-identifying men,” it would “strip the DAR of its 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax status without referencing any federal, civil, or municipal code.”
“They proclaim that a man is a woman if he lives and identifies as a woman and that we must allow men with a state-certified birth certificate, altered to show a female sex marker, in our women’s only society,” the letter added, pointing out how “two grassroots proposals to close this loophole” have been rejected and national leadership has “admonished members not to speak about it and threatened them with disciplinary action.”
The letter was signed by 150 plus members of the DAR, who oppose the message from their national organization that allows men with altered birth certificates to become members.
The DAR National Board of Management recently rejected a proposal from its Texas chapter to keep trans-identifying men out of the group.
In a letter to the Martha Laird Chapter, the DAR National Board of Management said it “found the proposed amendment” to prohibit all men, including trans-identifying males, from the group “not to be suitable for inclusion in the bylaws and not to be in the best interest of the Society.”
Daily Wire host Michael Knowles revealed — in a viral thread on X — how a group of DAR members were “channeling the rebellious spirit of their forebears” by fighting back “this time building a larger, grassroots effort to affirm the original intent of the bylaws and prevent men from continuing to invade their genealogical society.”
Laura McDonald, member of the Martha Laird DAR Chapter, told The Daily Wire, “The spirit of the new proposal [voted on Feb. 22] to amend the National Bylaws is to impel applicants to act in good faith when submitting their documents for application. At the same time, it will send a clear message that the Daughters of the American Revolution is a society exclusively for women. Men need not apply – no matter what state-certified, altered documents he produces.”
The national organization has declined a request for comment from The Daily Wire about trans-identifying males joining the DAR.
