BREAKING: NSA CHIEF TIMOTHY HAUGH FIRED

Gen. Timothy Haugh, head of both the NSA and U.S. Cyber Command, has been removed from his post, alongside NSA Deputy Wendy Noble.

The move was confirmed by current and former officials.

No explanation was given for the ouster.

Noble has been reassigned to the Pentagon’s intelligence office.

Haugh, who hosted U.S. DOGE Service director Elon last month at Fort Meade, was traveling and unavailable for comment.

The NSA plays a central role in cyber intelligence and surveillance.

The decision leaves critical leadership gaps at a pivotal moment for U.S. national security.
While the exact reason why the Chief and Deputy Director of the National Security Agency were ousted was not stated, this huge shake-up comes just after President Trump fired several other National Security Agency officials following a meeting with Laura Loomer.

More on that here:

House Democrats are not happy about this at all, and that should tell you everything you need to know.

Congressional Dems released this statement in response:

I am deeply disturbed by the decision to remove General Haugh as Director of the National Security Agency. I have known General Haugh to be an honest and forthright leader who followed the law and put national security first—I fear those are precisely the qualities that could lead to his firing in this Administration.

The Intelligence Committee and the American people need an immediate explanation for this decision, which makes all of us less safe.
The Washington Post broke the story:

The director of the powerful wiretapping and cyberespionage service, the National Security Agency, was fired Thursday, according to two current and one former U.S. officials.

Gen. Timothy Haugh, who also heads U.S. Cyber Command, was let go along with his civilian deputy at the NSA, Wendy Noble, according to the officials.

Noble was reassigned to a job within the Pentagon’s Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security. The NSA is part of the department.

Haugh, who assumed his dual position just over a year ago, was traveling on Thursday and could not be reached for comment. Sean Parnell, a spokesman for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, did not respond to a request for comment.

The current and former officials said they did not know the reason for Haugh’s dismissal or Noble’s reassignment.

The named acting NSA director is Lt. Gen. William J. Hartman, who was the Cyber Command deputy, one of the officials said. Sheila Thomas, who was the executive director at the NSA, was named acting deputy, the official said.
NBC News also reported:

The director and the No. 2 official at the National Security Agency were ousted from their positions Thursday, according to a defense official and three sources with knowledge of the matter.

It was not immediately clear why Air Force Gen. Timothy Haugh and his deputy were dismissed, the sources said.

The White House National Security Council did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday night.

Haugh was both the head of U.S. Cyber Command and the director of the National Security Agency, a role he had served in since February 2024. Deputy NSA Director Wendy Noble was the agency’s senior civilian leader.

Both are career officials — Haugh with more than 30 years in the Air Force, primarily in intelligence and cyber jobs, along with a degree in Russian studies, while Nobles worked her way up at the NSA since 1987.
