Vice President Kamala Harris was torched by social media users on Friday after video surfaced of her presiding over the U.S. Senate and scrambling for the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.
In several clips posted on X from the swearing-in ceremony for new senators, Harris can be seen standing up and placing her hand over her heart as she called on members of the Senate to join her “in saying the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.”
While the first few words go smoothly, with her reciting, “I pledge allegiance…,” that’s as far as she gets before she messes up.
After Harris said the word “allegiance,” she added, “to the United States of America,” while everyone else in the chamber said the correct line, which is “to the flag of the United States of America.”
Harris’ flub didn’t escape users on X, who called her out as a “joke” and more for screwing up something many have recited since they were in kindergarten.
“Kamala just flubbed the Pledge of Allegiance while presiding over the Senate lmfao,” one person wrote.
Another added, “HOLY SMOKES. Kamala just screwed up the pledge of allegiance on the Senate floor. What an embarrassment to this country.”
A third wrote, “LMAO! Kamala Harris just botched the Pledge of Allegiance on the Senate floor. What a joke.”
While a fourth added, “OMG. Kamala just messed up saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank God [President-elect Donald] Trump won.”
Other comments noted how Harris was just “a heartbeat away” from becoming the President of the United States during the final days of Joe Biden’s term.
Despite Donald Trump beating her for the presidency, some pundits have already suggested that the VP’s political career is far from over, as previously reported.
Symone Sanders, who served as a senior adviser and chief spokeswoman to Harris before leaving the Biden administration and joining MSNBC, said Harris is a “young politician” who “will be back.”
“I don’t think the world has seen the last of Vice President Kamala Harris,” Sanders said. “I don’t know how she will show up again, but she is a young politician who garnered over 75 million votes in this election, and she will be back.”
