A young girl related to Dr. Mehmet Oz fainted during his Oval Office swearing-in ceremony with President Donald Trump Friday afternoon, bringing the event to an abrupt halt.
The young girl, a “minor family member” according to the White House, collapsed nearly 40 minutes into the event. Members of the White House press pool reported being ushered out of the Oval Office shortly after the medical event.
“We are happy to say she is OK,” the White House said in a statement afterward.
“She’s not the first person to faint during one of these. As you know, it gets pretty hot in there sometimes,” a White House official told the Washington Examiner after the girl was confirmed unharmed.
During the president’s remarks, Trump claimed that Oz, the new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator, had a “sterling medical career” but accidentally referred to the Health and Human Services branch as the “Centers for Medicine and Medicaid.”

“I thought he just did a show,” Trump said after rattling off the career accomplishments of Oz, a former television personality. “You know why I know the show? Because he said I’m a little overweight. I should lose some weight.”
“We want to provide America with access to great care. We want to save the public health insurance programs of this country. That’s what President Trump asked me to do when he took [the presidency],” Oz added at another point. “Together, we’re going to make the care better. We’re going to make the outcomes improve, and we’re going to make sure that America can actually be the healthiest country that it could ever possibly be. We’ll make America healthy again.”
