Seattle has some of the highest local sales tax rates in the nation. You would think that, since it taxes its citizens into oblivion, officials would ensure that the streets are somewhat clean at least some of the time. It turns out, however, Americans are not afforded such a privilege. That special treatment is reserved solely for foreigners, despite the job of the government being to represent you, the American people.

The city of Seattle has finally decided to clean up the needles and trash on the street, but again, it was not for the American people. It was for all the tourists coming into town for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. And if you think the left finally doing its job when foreigners come in is only a Seattle problem, you would be mistaken.

In 2023, Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom admitted that “I know folks are saying, ‘Oh, they’re just cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming to town.’ That’s true, because it’s true.” This was in regards to a Chinese tyrant visiting his state, not because he believed residents deserved a somewhat clean city.

This may also be true for Seattle, as the government could not be bothered to do its job when only Americans were around.

According to the Daily Caller:

Seattle began ramping up its efforts to clean neighborhoods in 2025 ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a major international soccer tournament expected to draw 750,000 foreigners in June. On Wednesday, the city released a report detailing the improvements, which, of course, should have been made regardless of whether they were hosting a sporting event as big as the World Cup.

The report found that community clean-up efforts have been a smashing success; 5.3 million pounds of waste were collected and removed, equivalent to “the weight of about 530 orca whales.” Additionally, the city cleaned up hundreds of thousands of dirty and dangerous needles littered in public places.

Now, while I am no expert in city planning, common sense is telling me it takes a lot of neglect to accumulate “5.3 million pounds of waste” and “thousands of dirty and dangerous needles.” And if it were this easy to complete such a massive cleanup, common sense would also tell you it would be much easier to just upkeep the city so it does not get as bad. But again, it is not like the FIFA World Cup comes to America pretty often. I guess common-sense maintenance is just too much to ask for.

Maybe one day the left will represent the American people the way it does when foreigners come to town, but as of writing this, that is the best they can do. And to call that pathetic would be an understatement.
