There’s a reason people from around the world choose to come to America instead of Iran—and it’s not even close. So when Whoopi Goldberg claimed that being Black in America is no different than life in Iran, it was utterly absurd. And since her statement could not be further from the truth, she deserves to be mocked into oblivion.

Tell me you’re painfully naive without telling me you’re painfully naive — Whoopi Goldberg just did.

LOL. Wow. Just incredible.

First of all, there’s no such thing as equal rights in Iran, and the fact that she thinks referencing the Civil Rights Act is somehow comparable is objectively ridiculous.

Secondly, as Alyssa Farah pointed out, this little thing called “human rights” isn’t exactly recognized over there.

The United States is the only country founded on the belief that all people—regardless of skin color—are born with inherent rights that the government cannot take away. Had she paid attention in second grade, she might have understood that. Nonetheless, her reasoning somehow manages to get even worse.

And while Goldberg is right that “murdering someone for their differences is not good no matter who does it,” that simply isn’t something that happens in the United States in the way she implies. The government doesn’t throw people off buildings in America because of their sexuality or skin color, and it’s disingenuous for her to suggest otherwise.

Her shooting analogy is also pretty pathetic, considering Black-on-Black homicide is the main driver behind Black shootings, which mostly happen in predominantly Black neighborhoods—but that’s neither here nor there.

In fact, most murders are committed by people of the same race. So again, it’s unclear if she was intentionally trying to mislead the audience into thinking racism is behind this, but you do the math.

Iran even goes so far as to brainwash women who don’t comply with hijab laws. The fact that she tried to compare that to being Black in America is a slap in the face to everyone suffering under the Iranian regime.

Nonetheless, she tried—and she tried hard—but she failed, offering zero evidence to support her baseless claims. And calling that pathetic would be an understatement.
