Although former Washington Post writer Taylor Lorenz has come under fire for a host of objectionable comments in the past, her recent remarks about the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson late last year.
Her flirtatious justification of Luigi Mangione’s alleged acts drew widespread criticism, including from Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity.
The host interviewed Lorenz in the wake of her recent CNN appearance and confronted her on the controversial remarks.
As the Daily Caller reported:
Lorenz attempted to pivot to her complaints about the healthcare system, which Hannity quickly called out.
“That’s not the topic if you can talk about healthcare. I don’t like the healthcare system either, and a lot of people have experienced frustration like you’re saying. That to me is separate and apart from the debate of praising, calling ‘handsome, smart, intelligent,’ being joyful over the death and assassination of innocent people. That’s what your comments did,” Hannity said.
“Your comments basically put your seal of approval on murder and assassination. I’m trying to understand whether you like this guy, like the way he does business or not. You’re advocating and putting a smiley face on assassination,” Hannity added. “I’m trying to understand what is in your soul that doesn’t understand. He’s a father and a husband here. What are you missing? There seems to be a missing chip with you.”
Hannity was far from the only one with harsh words for Lorenz this week:
You know who would disagree with the absurd assertion from Taylor Lorenz that Luigi Mangione is a “morally good man”?

The Hill also reported on her discussion with CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan:
“You’re going to see women, especially, that feel, like, oh my God, here’s this man who’s a revolutionary, who’s famous, who’s handsome, who’s young, who’s smart, he’s a person who seems like a morally good man, which is hard to find,” she gushed to O’Sullivan.
Lorenz is nothing if not an attention sponge — she may not have a major media gig anymore, but her journalism has always been about making the headlines more than reporting on them.
Yet her appearance on CNN’s “MisinfoNation: Extreme America” Sunday was as notable for O’Sullivan’s questions as for Lorenz’s aiming-to-shock answers.
If indeed voting for Trump and making a hero out of a murderer both arise “because a lot of people are just really really desperate,” as O’Sullivan opined on air, then the real story CNN ought to be covering is the life-and-death difference between the political right and the violent left.
Here’s a clip of her “Hannity” appearance:
