Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called on Democrats to get “meaner” and “bully the sh**” our of President Donald Trump while delivering a speech in South Carolina.
The former vice presidential nominee was the keynote speaker at a Democrat-organized event on Saturday where he frequently lashed out at the Trump Administration in a profanity-laced tirade. “Maybe it’s time for us to be a little meaner, a little bit more fierce,” Walz said, drawing cheers and applause from attendees.
“The thing that bothers a teacher more than anything is to watch a bully,” the governor said. “And when its a child you talk to them and you tell them why bullying is wrong.”
“But when its an adult like Donald Trump, you bully the s–t out of him back,” Walz continued before referring to the president as a “wannabe dictator.”
“Donald is the existential threat we knew was coming,” the failed vice presidential nominee said during another portion of the Saturday morning speech, adding that Democrats are in for a “challenging few years.”
“We’ve got the guts and we need to have it to push back on the bullies and the greed,” Walz said during his remarks.
Walz has been delivering a number of speeches in primarily red or purple states ahead of what many political analysts see as a precursor to a presidential bid in 2028. The governor may be in for a repeat of the wildly unsuccessful Harris-Walz ticket should he decide to run, however, according to a recent poll from YouGov.
Despite his name recognition and efforts to appeal to rural voters, just three percent of Democrats described Walz as the “leader” of the party when asked last month. The governor finds himself trailing well behind a number of prominent Democrats, including Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
The results were much better for Walz when asked about the presidential race itself, though he still trails former Vice President Kamala Harris, who was the clear polling frontrunner with 58 percent of respondents saying they would consider voting for her in the primary. By comparison, Walz lands at 38 percent, tied with Ocasio-Cortez and just barely ahead of Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
