‘Jesus is Lord’ was never meant to be a meaningless phrase. Christians went to their deaths over it, refusing to give that honorific to any mortal man, even Caesar.

Has it fallen into such casual use that we’ve all forgotten what it REALLY means?

Sure looks that way.

What’s the solution?

Simple.

We do what scripture has always called us to do.

We remember.

What do we REALLY mean when we call him King. And Lord.

In John 13:13 Jesus told his disciples they were right to call him teacher and Lord.

That was κύριος. The Septuagint often used that same word for God.

Power.

Authority.

The Lord’s Prayer calls us to rightly consider (or to ‘hallow’) the One we approach in our prayer.

A diminished view of Him will lead to a diminished loyalty to both Him and His Word.

Let us all take a moment to remember — Truly Remember — who it was who bought us for Himself by his most precious Blood.
