Vice President JD Vance delivered a fiery and humorous address at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday morning, where he highlighted the Trump administration’s aggressive start to its second term while taking a well-placed jab at CNN’s struggling ratings.

Speaking with Mercedes Schlapp at the event’s opening session, Vance wasted no time in touting the administration’s achievements. President Trump, now just over a month into his second term, has already signed a record number of executive orders and policy directives, moving swiftly to fulfill his campaign promises on border security, energy, and government spending.

During the discussion, Schlapp remarked on the administration’s fast-paced agenda, noting that even the press was struggling to keep up with the flurry of executive actions. That setup gave Vance the perfect opening to land a punch on CNN, which has been a frequent target of Trump and his allies.

“Well, speaking of the press, I do think that we’ve had maybe more executive orders than CNN has viewers each night. So, hello to our friends at CNN,” Vance quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.

“I actually think that their plan was they were to go all in on anti-Trump and hope that he could save CNN in the same way that he did, frankly, in 2017 because nobody really watched the network until he became president in 2017,” Vance added. “But that’s maybe the one thing I think the president has been unable to do—unable to save CNN’s ratings over the last few months.”

Vance quickly pivoted to serious policy matters, emphasizing the administration’s swift action on immigration. “We have to secure the southern border, and thanks to [Trump’s] actions, border crossings are down well over 90%, and we’re just getting started.”

“We’ve got to get back to having a growing economy that creates good jobs and high wages for the American people, and a lot of that goes back to drill, baby, drill.”

Taking aim at wasteful government spending, Vance criticized federal funding for obscure projects overseas, including a taxpayer-funded modern art initiative in Afghanistan. “Why are we spending money on progressive modern art projects centered around toilets in Afghanistan? That’s actually something that your tax dollars were funding until very recently,” he noted.

As Trump’s second term gains momentum, Vance made it clear that the administration is laser-focused on delivering results for the American people. “Let’s turn off the spigot and spend the American people’s tax money on the American people’s priorities.”

As of Thursday, President Trump has issued over 70 executive orders during his second term, which began on January 20. The rapid issuance surpasses the pace of recent presidents, with Trump signing more executive orders in his first month than any other president in their initial 100 days.

These executive orders have addressed a wide range of policy areas, including immigration, federal government restructuring, and the reversal of previous administrations’ policies.

For instance, on his first day back in office, Trump signed an order rescinding several executive orders from the Biden administration, targeting policies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), climate change, and immigration.
