Mississippi Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann collapsed while presiding over the state Senate chamber in a startling moment captured on video. The 77-year-old Republican was seen suddenly falling as lawmakers rushed to his aid.

According to local reports, Hosemann remained conscious as medical staff tended to him. His office later issued a statement reassuring the public of his condition.

“Lieutenant Governor Hosemann is doing well and in good spirits. He appreciates all of the medical staff and is eager to return to work,” the statement read.

Details on what caused the collapse remain unclear. Hosemann, who has served as lieutenant governor since 2020, has played a key role in shaping Mississippi’s legislative priorities.

The Legislative YouTube channel promptly removed footage of the incident, but it captured a moment where Hosemann stumbled forward onto the podium before collapsing to the ground. He received immediate assistance, and the session was paused.

Following the incident, Hosemann was observed walking independently to a vehicle and later to his office, WLBT reports. His team released a statement saying Hosemann is “eager” to return to work. The Senate plans to resume its session at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Before the incident, Hosemann had stepped out from the third-floor Senate chamber to speak with a group from the Mississippi Main Street Association before returning to his podium. Following the event, Senate Finance Chairman Josh Harkins, a key ally of Hosemann in the Senate, shared an update on social media indicating that Hosemann seemed to be in good spirits.

“I appreciate all of the calls and text messages concerning Lt Governor Hosemann,” Harkins posted. “As he walked out of the Capitol a little while ago, he looked at us and said, ‘Hey, that last bill was awful!’ He is doing well, and if I know him, he will be trying to come back to the Capitol today.”
