Reston murder suspect released from jail day before shooting; sought on emergency custody order

A man arrested for murder in a Wednesday afternoon shooting in Reston had been released from jail the day before, and was being sought on an emergency custody order before the crime.

Drones, a helicopter and K-9s scoured the Reston neighborhood for close to three hours before Marvin Fernando Morales-Ortez, 23, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, Fairfax County Police said. A gun was recovered at the scene, according to a social media post from police.

Police Chief Kevin Davis said the suspect fatally shot another man inside a home in the 12300 block of Fan Shell Court, then fled the area on a bicycle. That neighborhood is near the intersection of the Dulles Access Road and Fairfax County Parkway.

Morales-Ortez’s last known address was the home where the shooting took place.

Police believe the man who was killed lived in the home, Davis said.

“They probably have resided in the same house, either now or at some time in the past before,” Davis said during a news conference. “So logically, to assume that they know each other and are familiar with each other is a safe bet to make.”

There’s no word yet on motive.

The man who was fatally shot has not been identified, Davis said.

According to case documents from the Fairfax County General District Court, Morales-Ortez had been arrested on Sept. 14 for a misdemeanor firearms charge and a felony malicious assault charge. A Fairfax County General District Court judge released him from custody on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

After his release, a Community Services Board clinician obtained an emergency custody order (ECO) for Morales-Ortez, Fairfax County police said.

“An ECO is valid for eight hours after issuance by a magistrate,” the department said in a social media post. “Reston District patrol officers were then dispatched to serve the ECO and take Morales-Ortez into custody.”

Officers went to his address on record, but didn’t find him before the emergency order expired.

During Wednesday afternoon’s manhunt, the police chief said Morales-Ortez was considered “armed and dangerous.”

Five Fairfax County Public Schools in the area were placed on “secure the building” status as police searched for Morales-Ortez, the school system told WTOP in a statement. That means students and staff were asked to remain inside those schools and dismissals were delayed until police could determine it’s safe.

Marvin Fernando Morales-Ortez is highly likely another one of Biden’s illegals doing good deeds in our country. As usual, InsideNova fails to do basic journalism 101 and state whether this perp was in the country illegally. Of course, liberal Fairfax released him into the public when they shouldn’t have. People keep voting for these failed liberal policies. It’s time to wake up America.
