Many Americans’ favorite vacation getaway is the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

However, this Sunday, the blissful and bustling vacation spot turned into a nightmare after a serious multi-vehicle crash occurred on the iconic Gatlinburg strip.

Several people involved in the crash had to be airlifted, and others were taken by ambulances to a local hospital.

Several people were taken to the hospital after a multi-car crash in downtown Gatlinburg Sunday afternoon.

According to a spokesperson with the City of Gatlinburg, the crash happened in the 700 block of Parkway in the downtown area at around 4:15 p.m.

Officials said three people were flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, while three others were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The crash did shut down the roadway, which remains closed as of 6:45 p.m.
