The suspected Brown University shooter has been confirmed dead.

This evening, he was found by police in a storage unit after reportedly committing suicide.

We were among the first to bring you that report:

BREAKING: Brown University Shooter Found DEAD from “Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound”

Now, police have finally released the identity of the alleged shooter as 48-year-old Claudio Neves-Valente.

He was not a U.S. citizen (surprise, surprise), but a Portuguese national.

Watch the announcement during tonight’s press conference here:

Here’s a photo of the suspect:

BREAKING: Face photo of Portuguese national Claudio Neves Valente, the suspected Brown University shooter

Here’s what we know:

– 48 years old
– NOT a U.S. citizen
– Green card holder from Portugal
– Once was a Brown University student
– Found dead in a Salem, NH storage unit

Burn in hell, loser.

And, another:

Neves-Valente was a former student of physics at Brown University.

Notably, the MIT professor who was killed this week was also from Portugal.

Authorities believe they attended the same university in Lisbon, Portugal.

The New York Times provided more information:

Nuno F.G. Loureiro, the slain M.I.T. professor, was born and raised in Portugal and studied physics at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon.

Special Agent Docks, with the F.B.I., said that it was believed that the suspect attended the same university in Lisbon as the slain M.I.T. professor…

The president of Brown University, Christina Paxson, says that the suspect was enrolled at the school from 2000 to 2001. He was not a current Brown student. He was pursuing a graduate program in physics. “It is safe to assume that this man, when he was a student, spent a lot of time in that building” where the shooting occurred.

As suspected earlier, authorities confirmed that Neves-Valente was responsible for both the mass shooting at Brown University and the murder of the MIT professor.

From NBC News:

Federal officials said tonight that they could confirm the death of the “Brown University and MIT professor shooter,” adding that “there’s no longer a threat to the public” in a news statement.

Police said earlier today that they were investigating whether the two shootings were linked.

The suspect’s motive has not yet been released, at this time.

We’ll continue to bring you further updates as they are revealed.
