Two closely-watched special elections in Florida appear headed for Republican wins as party operatives say they are seeing “booming” turnout by Trump-supporting voters eager to help the GOP grow its slim majority in the U.S. House.

In Florida’s 6th congressional district, State Senator Randy Fine is vying to fill the seat of former Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL), now a national security advisor in President Donald Trump’s administration. For weeks, top party officials have fretted that the first-time congressional candidate had been taking the race for granted given the district’s R+14 rating and cited his lackluster fundraising compared to Democratic challenger Josh Weil.

But Decision Desk HQ’s Michael Pruser is reporting that voter turnout portends a good night for Fine.

“We’re three hours into election day voting in FL-06, Randy Fine is getting everything he could have dreamed of, and more,” the election forecaster wrote on X.

“Turnout is booming, and Republicans are coming out en masse. Exactly 19,000 ballots were cast today through 10 am ET, and the composite of these ballots is a whopping R+36.”

“This pushes the overall current electorate to R +13.04%, and we are likely going to sail upwards toward R+18% by the end of the day.”

Voters in the eastern Florida district, which stretches from Ocala to the towns north of Daytona Beach, have been subjected to a deluge of outside spending in recent weeks as Democrats scramble to frame the race as a referendum on President Trump.

Speaking at a telephone town hall meeting on Monday, Fine said that Democrats will stop at nothing to slow House business down if Weil wins.

“Democrats are mad,” he said, the BBC reported. “They’re going to do whatever it takes to grind Donald Trump’s agenda to a halt.”

Weil, a first time candidate, has raised $10 million compared to the $1 million brought in by Fine. Recent public polling had shown the Democrat closely trailing the Republican lawmaker, a worrying sign in a district that President Trump carried by 30 points in November.

Last Thursday, the president joined Fine for a telephone town hall where he rallied MAGA supporters to turn out their friends and family members for Fine.

“America First Patriot Randy Fine is running to represent the Wonderful People of Florida’s 6th Congressional District!” he wrote in a post on Truth Social. ” A highly successful, Harvard educated businessman, and greatly respected State Legislator, Randy has been a tremendous Voice for MAGA.”

“In Congress, Randy will be an incredible fighter, who will work tirelessly with me to Strengthen our Economy, Lower Taxes, Secure the Border, Champion our Military/Vets, Ensure American Energy DOMINANCE, Protect our always under siege Second Amendment, and Advance PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH,” Trump added.

The stakes could not be higher for House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who governs with just a four-seat majority and four vacancies. Last month he was able to secure a continuing resolution to prevent a government shutdown, losing just one vote in the process.

In a sign of Johnson’s precarious position, President Trump last week pulled the nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to serve as U.N. ambassador, telling allies that he believes she will be a more formidable force in the House GOP for the remainder of his term.
