President Donald Trump is expected to announce a $12 billion farm aid program on Monday.
The plan to provide aid to the nation’s farming industry comes as many have endured financial hardship due to low crop prices, the fallout associated with tariff policies, and other economic challenges, a White House official told Bloomberg News. Trump plans to announce the Farmer Bridge Assistance program on Monday afternoon at an event which will reportedly be attended by farmers, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.
The aid package was also necessary due to losses from the “past three crop years,” exceeding $50 billion, according to John Newton, vice president of public policy and economic analysis at the American Farm Bureau Federation.
“Economic aid is urgently needed in the countryside, as most farmers will begin planting their next crop early in 2026, with some crops already planted, and must have their financial commitments in place as they secure lines of credit,” Newton said in November. “Many lenders will not count federal support on a balance sheet until it is certain, heightening the urgency, especially given that $12 billion is only a portion of the economic losses farmers have already accumulated.”
Rollins previously touted the administration’s dedicated efforts to helping farmers during the current economic challenges. She teased the release of the FBA program during a Cabinet meeting on Dec. 2.
“We do have a bridge payment we will be announcing with you next week as we’re still trying to recover from the Biden years,” she said.
The program will fund as much as $11 billion in payments to crop farmers in financial duress, according to Bloomberg. Relief payments will be allocated for farmers who produce pork, soybeans, and other crops affected by retaliatory tariffs, specified in the FBA. Additional funds are expected to provide economic relief to farmers whose crops are not covered in the new program.
The FBA is designed to act as a “bridge payment” to farmers as the country transitions to new programs established in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that are set to begin in 2026, according to reports.
More information about the FBA will be provided during Monday’s press conference announcing it.
