As I woke up on a beautiful Ohio morning on Friday, several friends asked if I would still take part in the Ohio March for Life with my injured knee. Scheduled for knee replacement in three weeks, I grabbed my brace and cane and headed for Columbus to be a voice for the babies.

Thousands gathered at the Ohio Statehouse for a morning of worship music and to visit the various pro-life booths as we came together to March for Life. Several speakers welcomed and encouraged the crowd in our fight for life.

Abortion survivor Melissa Ohden, founder of the Abortion Survivors Network, was the keynote speaker. Melissa shared her powerful testimony about surviving an abortion at five months and what God has done with her life. She is living proof that abortion is the destruction of a human life.

I was there to represent Priests for Life, where I am the director of youth outreach and the coordinator of street activism, and Stand True, the pro-life youth organization I founded. Silent No More, a project of Priests for Life and Anglicans for Life, was represented by Christy Ballor, who serves as the regional coordinator for Central Ohio. She had an abortion at 17 and now speaks out whenever she can about the years she spent in denial about what she lost that day and how she found healing. You can read her story here at SilentNoMore.com

The Ohio March for Life is cosponsored and hosted by the Center for Christian Values based in Columbus and many groups, including the national March for Life organization, SBA Pro-life America, Created Equal and dozens more gathered in unity to spread our message through the streets of Columbus.

Three pro-abortion protesters tried to spread their own message but were drowned out by prayerful and joyful pro-life warriors. A group of Catholic students knelt in front of them and prayed the rosary.

As at many marches, including the national event, there were so many young people and school groups that were on fire for the cause. One group wore white t-shirts with a quote from Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated Sept. 10 in Utah. “If it’s not your DNA,” the shirts read, “It’s not your choice.”

Several Ohio state legislators took part in the March, many carrying pink signs that read “Defund Planned Parenthood.” I also spotted Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost walking the route hand-in-hand with his wife, Darlene.

While the devil wants us to be afraid in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death, we came out in numbers and without fear as we know Christ is king. We will only increase our public witness and never back down in fear.

Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone had this message for Ohio pro-lifers.

Bryan Kemper is the youth outreach director for Priests for Life and the founder of its youth outreach Stand True. He is the author of Social Justice Begins in the Womb and Pro-life is the New Punk Rock.
