The cannibalization of Eric Swalwell now complete. He has dropped out of the race. But before anyone gloats over his demise, we should ask ourselves what the BIGGER play is here.
Hint: there’s more than one ‘play’ in the works here.
If you were to take a poll on self-serving greaseball Dems at the federal level, the name Eric Swalwell would be tough to beat. Even revelations about his *ahem* relationship with a Chinese honeypot spy was not sufficiently damning to have Dems quietly force him to resign from access to secret information available in the Gang Of Eight, let alone give him the heave-ho from public office.
He was one of the loudest of the NeverTrump voices on the left. Very involved in the hatchet-jobs not only in impeachment, but in J6, the demands for Biden’s DOJ to throw the book at him, perpetual leaks of classified information and grandiose accusations about sexual impropriety from everyone to Trump to federal judge nominated for a seat on SCOTUS. Oh, and he was being criminally investigated for the very same fault he leveraged to oust his predecessor and take his place — a fraudulent California residency claim. His endless accusations against his various political foes were even more shrill than those of his mentor, Nancy Pelosi.
But as of yesterday, he officially pulled the plug on his run for California Governor… and his name is on a list of people to be ejected from Congress. (More on that in a minute.)
Is this a reason for celebration? The Dems must think so, since they were the ones to orchestrate the takedown with ruthless efficiency.
If the allegations have been described by many as an ‘open secret’ well known to the locals, taking him down was hardly a matter of principle. Rule One when looking at media reporting on Dems: the only time a negative story gets traction is when it helps the Dems in the bigger picture.
And that’s exactly what’s happening here.
Long ago, California cynically looked at their political machine and shored up their political power with something called a ‘jungle primary’. Whichever two candidates in the primaries (regardless of party) finish in the top two spots get to battle it out in the general election. There’s just one problem with that plan: if there are too many Dems running, there is a small chance that vote splitting can set up a race between two Republicans.
There was a real chance of that happening, per a site with a somewhat left/center bias.
Below are voters’ current top three choices, according to a poll of 1,200 likely voters conducted between March 31- April 5 by the public opinion firm Evitarus.
Chad Bianco, the Republican sheriff of Riverside County, has 14 percent support from likely voters, including voters leaning toward his candidacy.
Steve Hilton, a conservative commentator and Fox News host, also has 14 percent support, with a smaller share of direct supporters and a larger share of supporters leaning toward voting for him.
Eric Swalwell, a Democratic U.S. representative from California, has the highest level of direct support for a Democrat, with 11 percent of voters in the poll backing his campaign and another 1 percent leaning his way. Two other Democrats, former U.S. Rep. Katie Porter and Tom Steyer, a billionaire philanthropist, have 7 percent and 11 percent respectively. A poll conducted by the same firm a few weeks earlier showed a three-way tie at 10 percent for the leading Democrats in the race. — Governing
And just like that, the bottom fell out of his campaign.
JUST IN: OVER 50 former staffers of Eric Swalwell have just released a statement calling for him to RESIGN
They also referred to the r*pe allegations against him as CREDIBLE.
Democrats have known this for YEARS, yet they never spoke up until now.

It didn’t take long for this video to be followed up by an announcement of him dropping out.
But why take down the Democrat with the highest poll numbers?
If you were to ask David Hogg, (based on his own recent personal experience in party politics), he might suggest it has something to do with being a white dude.
Another way to break it down is that Swalwell is ‘establishment’ Democrat while Kati Porter is from the hardline left wing of the party, and Steyer is a billionaire from the donor class. Swalwell wasn’t just an ‘easy out’ but he could represent a political play by one faction of the party.
If they were honest, they would reject Katie Porter for her own failings. Dumping the mashed potatoes on her ex husband’s head and scalding him is hardly a sign of ‘leadership qualities’.
If we are believing the women who accused Swalwell of sexual misconduct (which I do), we should ALSO believe the man who accused Porter of domestic abuse. I know this is a controversial thing to say, but California deserves better than these 2 psychopaths. https://t.co/wmSTfoCf5V

But there’s another wrinkle: this one is ALSO about power.
Pushes to have him drop out of the Governor’s race were suspiciously silent on the need for him to give up his seat in Congress. He’s being ‘credibly accused of rape’ according to some of the allegation, which has prompted a criminal investigation in Manhattan. But that alone isn’t enough for Dems to drop him like a hot potato. Just like the federal indictment of Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick wasn’t enough for Dems to drop HER like a hot potato even after the House found her guilty of ethics violations.
There are rumblings about a willingness to remove these two Democrats IF they can take down a like number of Republicans with them. Remember there have been reports that Swalwell was already being criminally investigated for his falsification of his California residency.
Who would they want taken down?

Tony Gonzales (R-TX) dropped out of a primary run-off when he was no longer able to hand wave away allegations of improper relationship with a former staffer who later committed suicide. It’s a bad look to be sure. And he’s no longer seeking re-election. But there have been no official allegations of criminal wrongdoing.
Cory Mills is in another situation where he had non-criminal campaign violations as well as a restraining order from a girlfriend. Again, neither of these rise to the level of criminal wrongdoing.
But they care about power, not about criminality. Don’t take my word for it either.
Remember Senator ‘Gold Bars’ Menendez? The same Dems that were in a great hurry to knock out George Santos so that could put a blue vote in his seat were in NO great hurry to sent Menendez packing. He stayed on until he RESIGNED which came AFTER his conviction. Dems offered no such courtesy to Santos, because they play for keeps.
It’s all about power. And that’s all it’s ever been about for them.
