Don’t expect the ‘mainstream’ press to look too closely under the hood when it comes to this announcement. They’re far more interested in stories about GOP infighting.

But that doesn’t change how newsworthy this announcement is. It’s not just who she is, it’s who walks with her when she goes.

Randi Weingarten has, for years, been the face of one of the staunchest allies of the Democrat party — Teachers’ Unions. Not only do unions convert pour pallets of cash from teachers’ paychecks into one of the largest slush funds for DNC election campaigns, but they play a critical role in Democrat Get Out The Vote efforts.

Weingarten, who leads the American Federation of Teachers and has served as an at-large member of the DNC for decades, wrote in a letter to Martin this month that she would decline his offer to reappoint her to an at-large position. Martin had recently removed her from the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws committee, where she served since 2009. Weingarten was also vocally supportive of David Hogg, the Gen Z activist who departed his role as DNC vice chair last week after a messy dispute with Martin and other party officials.
“While I am proud to be a Democrat, I appear to be out of step with the leadership you are forging, and I do not want to be the one who keeps questioning why we are not enlarging our tent and actively trying to engage more and more of our communities,” Weingarten wrote in her letter to Martin obtained by The Washington Post. — WaPo

Her support for David Hogg shows she’s pulling the party harder to the left than even THEY are willing to go right now. It makes sense in light of the influence she once had in crafting the language of the school lockdowns during the Biden era. She had a good thing going with the crew that ran the show until the end of his term. But now, her critical position of influence was lost in the last changing of the guard, so she’s taking her toys and going home.

Remember the COVID shutdowns in which Weingarten claimed to have no active role? The ones where the White House used the *exact* wording from her emails in crafting the shutdown policy? ClashDaily remembers. We’ve reported on it. Don’t let her pretend to be dismayed about the closures she herself had a hand in orchestrating.

With Trump’s DofE prepping to kick control of Education back to the State level, and GOP enshrining school choice into law, both the power and the money she’s used to weilding could soon find itself on shaky ground.

Whether this is a case of rats fleeing the sinking ship, or a more ordinary example of mutiny being waged against an unpopular captain that stopped giving special benefits to once-favored officers, this kind of disunity is exactly what the left wants to avoid, especially as the clock counts down toward the official kickoff of the midterm election cycle.

Not that we mind the infighting. It could be argued by the right, that what’s bad for the DNC is actually pretty good for America.
