A babysitter in Kansas found a man underneath the bed of a child she was babysitting.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office reported that a babysitter was shocked after finding a man underneath the bed of a child she was babysitting after the child complained that there was a monster underneath his bed.

Once the babysitter discovered the man, an altercation broke loose and the man fled teh scene.

Police later arrested Martin Villalobos Junior, 27, who was a former resident of the building.

Villalobos has been charged with “aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order.”

Per CNN:

A babysitter looked under a bed to reassure a worried child that there wasn’t a monster hiding there — and came face-to-face with a man who wasn’t supposed to be there, a sheriff’s office in Kansas said in a news release.

The 27-year-old was booked into jail this week after a struggle with the babysitter that knocked the child to the ground.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called late Monday to the home near Great Bend, a city of around 15,000 in the western part of the state. The suspect was gone when they arrived, but the babysitter told them that the child had been complaining about a “monster” before she found the suspect.

The man once lived in the home, but that there was a protection from abuse order issued against him to stay away from the property, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies searched but were unable to find the man until the next day, when he was captured after a foot chase, the news release said.

Online court records show the man had posted bond about 10 days earlier after he was charged with criminal threat, domestic battery and violating a protection from abuse order. Those allegations were alleged to have occurred in January and February.

Here’s what The Jerusalem Post reported:

The “monster” under the bed turned out to be more than just a child’s overactive imagination.

While a monster under the bed is a common fear expressed by children looking to extend their bedtime, a babysitter in Kansas discovered that the complaint was based on more than just an overactive imagination – after she discovered on Monday a man hiding in the cramped space, Barton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed this week.
Police were dispatched to the home at 10:30 p.m. on Monday night after receiving a disturbance call on Patton Road.

They were told upon arrival that the babysitter discovered a man hiding under a child’s bed while investigating it for an apparent “monster” lurking underneath.
After discovering the hiding man, an altercation broke out in which both the babysitter and child were knocked over. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Police later identified the suspect as Martin Villalobos Junior, a former resident of the building. Villalobos currently has a protection-from-abuse order against him.

After a day of searching, police arrested the 27-year-old suspect on Tuesday and charged him with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order.
