The second earthquake in a matter of days has again shaken the NYC area.
Technically originating below New Jersey soil, today’s 2.7 quake was actually felt in multiple states including Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
While the 3.0 on Saturday night and this afternoon’s secondary shaking weren’t as big as the 4.8 that hit the same area in April of last year, some are concerned by the closely grouped nature of recent quakes in the area.
The local Fox News affiliate out of NYC covered today’s quake immediately after some of those inside their NYC newsroom felt the shaking.
That Fox News coverage noted that the quake — like Saturday’s — was centered in New Jersey, but felt in multiple states including New York, and inside the Big Apple itself:
NYC Emergency Management put out the following alert via it’s X account, warning of possible aftershocks:
A magnitude 2.7 earthquake has been reported to have occurred in New Jersey. Tremors may have been felt in parts of New York City. NYC Emergency Management is monitoring for impacts and coordinating with agency partners.
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS:

Here’s the full text of that warning from NYC Emergency Management:
A magnitude 2.7 earthquake has been reported to have occurred in New Jersey. Tremors may have been felt in parts of New York City. NYC Emergency Management is monitoring for impacts and coordinating with agency partners.

Be prepared for possible aftershocks. These may follow minutes, hours, or even days after the initial quake.
No immediate protective action is needed unless you experienced damage.
If you felt shaking, check for hazards such as shifted items, falling debris, or cracks.
Did you feel it? Report to @USGS : https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us6000qycw/executive?utm_medium=email&utm_source=ENS&utm_campaign=realtime
Report non-emergency damage to 311 or online at http://nyc.gov/311.
Only call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.
Stay informed through @NotifyNYC and official city sources.
No major impacts reported at this time. Updates will follow if conditions change.
While sharing the story on X, Rep. Tim Burchett managed to also warn of POLITICAL ‘quakes’ likely to follow in the wake of such a story.
After all, it’s common to expect President Trump to catch all the slack for even the most obvious acts of God… in the name of climate change, right?
The smart money says there are a handful of Congressional Democrats who will fulfill this prophecy ASAP:

NYC authorities are still assessing for potential damage or injuries from today’s shaking, according to the New York Post:
The 2.7 magnitude quake was recorded near Hillsdale, New Jersey, just after noon, according to the US Geological Survey.
The center struck more than 7 miles below the ground.
It wasn’t immediately clear if any injuries or damages had been reported.
New York City’s emergency management agency warned that tremors could have been felt across the Big Apple and noted authorities were monitoring for impacts.
The latest earth-rattling comes after a magnitude 3.0 quake struck in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, on Saturday night.
That earthquake was felt in parts of Upper Manhattan, including Hell’s Kitchen, as well as Riverdale in The Bronx and Staten Island.
Today’s secondary quake comes on the heels of a big find coming to attention only recently after Saturday’s 3.0 quake.
It is the result of last year’s larger quake, and a load of sensors installed after that event that eventually led to a discovery.
A brand new previously unknown fault line in the area is now known to exist, as explained by the NBC News affiliate out of New York following Saturday night’s quake:
That previously unknown fault line could hold some of the answers for recent “swarming” earthquakes like those that seem to be happening more and more in the same region of the quake on Saturday and today.
But according to one geophysicist, those two quakes may not even be related.
They may have initiated from completely different fault lines (which would align perfectly with the fact that a previously undiscovered fault line exists), as reported by the Associated Press:
The 2.7 magnitude earthquake struck a little after noon near suburban Hillsdale, New Jersey, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of the Bronx in New York City, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor came after a 3.0 magnitude earthquake shook the area Saturday night. That earthquake struck Hasbrouck Heights, which is about 9 miles (14 kilometers) south of Hillsdale.
Though the two relatively mild quakes occurred nearby over several days, geophysicist Jessica Turner of the National Earthquake Information Center said it was “a little hard” to label the second one an aftershock.
“While it did occur about nine miles to the north of the earthquake that occurred on August 2nd, we aren’t quite sure because it’s not right on top of that location,” she said. “We aren’t quite sure if this is an aftershock of that earthquake or if maybe it’s just kind of like a separate earthquake that occurred.”
While tremors this strong are common in other parts of the United States, relatively few have been recorded in the New York City area.
I don’t want to go too deep down the rabbit hole on this, but I can’t help but throw in the fact that just within the past few days a group of scientists have disclosed a strange and scary discovery.
Check out this headline from the New York Post just yesterday:
Massive, mysterious ‘hot blob’ beneath Eastern US is moving toward New York, puzzling scientists https://t.co/MuEQFPpPmj pic.twitter.com/SIVVW0fQzw
— New York Post (@nypost) August 4, 2025
Is there the possibility that an increase in earthquakes in the Northeastern US is somehow related to… WHATEVER… these scientists have discovered?
Mysterious “hot blob” beneath the ground “moving” towards New York — what does that even mean!?
Here’s a quick look at that report from the New York Post just yesterday:
UK scientists have discovered a massive “blob” of rock underneath the Appalachian mountains that’s slowly oozing its way toward New York City, per a slimy new study published in the journal Geology.
Officially dubbed the Northern Appalachian Anomaly (NAA), this subterranean slimeball sits 125 feet deep underground and extends 220 miles across New England. The team reportedly discovered it using seismic tomography, a method akin to taking a giant CAT scan of the Earth.
In a study published last year in the Journal Nature, the team described how this molten mantle molasses is created when hot rock sitting just outside the Earth’s core rises to fill cracks in the crust caused by land rifts.
When this material eventually cools, it sinks or “drips,” causing a ripple effect along the lower surfaces of the continents that has been called “mantle waves.”
By using a combination of direct geological observations, computer simulations and model plate tectonics and geodynamics, the team was able to replicate the formation of a hot blob 1,120 miles northeast of the Appalachians.
Quite frankly, I don’t have a clue what to make of that “hot blob” story. I’ve never heard anything like it!
And I have absolutely no idea if it’s even remotely related to the quakes in the area today, Saturday, or any other time for that matter.
But I know the Bible makes it clear that in the time leading up to “the end” there will be an uptick in things like earthquakes, and they’ll happen in odd places.
The details may seem ‘shaky’, and as Rep. Burchett pointed out… mankind will probably find another person to blame things on.
But when all is said and done, ALL of these events ultimately have one unified purpose — to bring mankind’s focus and attention around to the fact that the world isn’t designed to be permanent; at least not in this present condition.
And one day… this world, and even the cosmos up above, will melt in God-ordained fire, to be remade into a “new heaven” and a “new earth”, just as God’s Word says.
So even while this world shakes from time to time, we can take heart knowing that every single tremor allowed by God (not caused by President Trump…) points to a future time when the shaking will stop for good, and Jesus Christ will occupy the throne of David in the flesh, for time without end.
If the Bible is true, and I have no doubt that it is, there will be far more earthquakes in the coming years than we’re seeing right now.
And you and I can be lifting up our heads… knowing our redemption is only drawing nigh, as divinely promised.
