The Black Lives Matter riots are behind us for now, but the statues that preserve our culture continue to come down. Robert E. Lee was a titan of American history. Being a Virginian, he was caught on the losing side in the Civil War. So he has to be erased. He is to be replaced by relative nonentities chosen to recast American history in accordance with leftist ideology.

Anyone ever heard of Barbara Rose Johns?

The U.S. Capitol on Tuesday began displaying a statue of a teenaged Barbara Rose Johns as she protested poor conditions at her segregated Virginia high school, a pointed replacement for a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee that was removed several years ago. …

Johns was 16 years old in 1951 when she led a student strike for equal education at R.R. Moton High School in Farmville, Virginia.

She grew up to work as a librarian.

The Johns piece is part of the National Statuary Hall Collection at the Capitol, in which each state can contribute two statues. The other statue representing Virginia is of George Washington.

James Madison was primary architect of the US Constitution. Thomas Jefferson was primary author of the Declaration of Independence. James Monroe helped expand America’s size and influence. But these Virginians pale in historical significance compared to Barbara Rose Johns.

Despite the DEI basis for her selection, you would never know she was black from the statue:

We were able to heal from the Civil War to the extent we did because the victors afforded some grace. That grace has given way to the ruthless intolerance of the moonbat martinets who call themselves “liberals” — as the war on Southern history demonstrates.

If progressives prevail, slave-owning white guy George Washington will follow Robert E. Lee into oblivion.
