James Fishback, a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Florida, said an “arsonist” attempted to set his house on fire while his staff was meeting.

“If anyone attacks our staff or volunteers, we will not wait for the police. We will shoot you dead,” Fishback said.

“Someone just tried to set my house on fire,” he said in a separate post.

CBS News shared further:

According to James Fishback’s campaign, the incident took place at his home in Madison, a city east of Tallahassee close to the Georgia border, in northern Florida.

The campaign said the incident took place Sunday night, and that the flames got close to his home while Fishback and his staffers were working. It was Fishback’s first time home in 10 weeks since he launched his campaign to become Florida’s next governor.

“Yesterday, an arsonist tried to set my house on fire,” Fishback said on his Instagram account. “Tonight, I’m hosting a rally at my house, where I’ll take questions and share my vision to make Florida more affordable.”

It’s unknown if any suspects are in custody, and the fire department has not said if it was investigating the incident as arson.

Fishback previously made headlines for some proposals considered to be controversial, like a so-called 50% “sin” tax on OnlyFans creators. Fishback has argued that the tax revenue would be used to raise teacher pay and improve school lunches.

“Yes. As Florida Governor, I will institute at 50% tax on all income derived from ‘Only Fans,’” Fishback said last month.

“As Governor, I will *fully* defend your Second Amendment rights. I’ll reverse the age increase to buy a gun, end the war on bump stocks and FRTs, allow 18 year olds to carry, and eliminate red flag laws,” Fishback said after the alleged arson attack.

The investor first announced his campaign in late November. He is the CEO of investment firm Azoria and the founder of Incubate Debate, a debate league for students.

Fishback, who has never held political office, says his top priority is to deliver a more affordable life for Floridians. His agenda includes abolishing property taxes for all Florida residents’ homesteaded properties.

“I am a businessman. I’m an investor. I took on Wall Street. I actually sued the Federal Reserve earlier this year for keeping interest rates too high. I think that was in part to spite President Trump. I filed a landmark legal brief with the Supreme Court defending President Trump’s right to remove corrupt federal officials, but my background is that of a 4th-generation Floridian,” Fishback said.
