Elon Musk took to X to ask: If we ditch daylight saving time, should we set clocks an hour earlier or later?

Over 1.3 million votes rolled in, with 58% favoring an hour later.

This isn’t just Elon musing, President Trump has also called for ending this.

And so he was asked about it, but it seems he needs more time to think on it.

Looks like the time has come to rethink time itself.

But which to choose?

I would have to guess that which ever one is the original time as created by God would obviously be the better choice.

It’s not like we know better than Him.

Standard Time is organic.

Daylight Savings Time is basically the GMO of time.

A lot of people want Standard Time, but they don’t know which of the two options to pick.

So, how accurate is that poll?

LiveMint reports:

As the US prepares to set clocks forward by an hour this weekend, Elon Musk has reignited the debate over Daylight Saving Time (DST). On Wednesday, just days before the change, the billionaire tech mogul launched a poll on X, asking Americans what they would prefer if the biannual time change were eliminated.

“If daylight savings time change is canceled, do you prefer an hour earlier [or] an hour later?” Musk asked.

The results showed that 58% of respondents preferred an hour later, while 42% opted for an hour earlier.

Trump’s push to end DST

Elon Musk has long advocated for abolishing Day Light Saving, aligning with former President Donald Trump’s campaign pledge to end the time change. Trump has publicly voiced his opposition to DST, calling it costly and inconvenient.

In December, he wrote on Truth Social, “The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.”

New York Post adds:

This Sunday, March 9, at 2 a.m., most — but not all — Americans will move their clock forward an hour and lose an hour of sleep for daylight saving time. This time change will also allow those who live in regions where clocks are adjusted to enjoy the sun through late evening until November.

The biannual changing of the clocks has long been controversial, and Elon Musk put out a poll to see how the general public feels about it.

“If daylight savings time change is canceled, do you prefer: an hour earlier [or] an hour later,” the X poll asked.

“The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate daylight saving time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight saving time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in December.

It’s not just “people want to abolish the annoying time change”. We want to get our bodies back in sync with how it should be.

President Trump on the topic:

Daylight Savings is man-made, and like most things man-made, it’s worse for you…

WHY WE SHOULD DITCH DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME

Health Benefits: The biannual clock changes disrupt our sleep patterns, leading to increased risks of heart attacks, strokes, and mood disturbances. Permanent standard time aligns better with our natural circadian rhythms.

Safety: There’s evidence linking the spring forward to an increase in car accidents, workplace injuries, and medical errors due to sleep deprivation. A consistent time schedule could reduce these risks.

Economic Efficiency: The productivity losses from the time change, due to disrupted sleep and recovery time, can be significant. Eliminating DST could lead to more stable work schedules and potentially boost productivity.

Simplification: No more confusing time changes twice a year. This would simplify scheduling for schools, businesses, and travel across different time zones.

Energy Savings: Contrary to popular belief, studies suggest that DST doesn’t save energy and might even increase it due to more evening light leading to higher AC use. Standard time year-round could lead to better energy management.

Agricultural and Outdoor Work: Farmers and those whose work depends on daylight would benefit from predictable daylight hours, reducing scheduling headaches.

In essence, moving away from Daylight Saving Time could offer substantial health, safety, economic, and logistical benefits for society.
