A new investigation by DropSite News is raising fresh questions about the shadowy international dealings of Jeffrey Epstein, this time focusing on the sex trafficker’s secret involvement with Mossad and efforts to aid Israel in opening a covert backchannel to Russia amid the chaos of the Syrian Civil War.

Epstein’s value to Barak reportedly went beyond social introductions and became a key part of Israel’s intelligence toolbox. “Epstein was an invaluable resource for Israel’s former prime minister, who also served as head of intelligence and defense minister throughout his career, sharing whispers from within Russian elite circles and intel on Putin’s interlocutors in Europe and the U.S — and even advising him on how to engage with the Mossad,” Drop Site News reported.

One February 2014 email quoted by Drop Site News shows Epstein telling Barak, “With civil unrest exploding in Ukraine, Syria, Somolia [sic], Libya, and the desperation of those in power, isn’t this perfect for you.” Barak replied, “You’re right in a way. But not simple to transform it into a cash flow. A subject for Saturday.” While much of their coordinated activity ultimately failed to sway the Kremlin’s position on Assad, it did lay the groundwork for subsequent U.S.-Russia cooperation on disarming Syria’s chemical arsenal.

The trove of emails also hints at Epstein’s broader efforts to shape U.S. foreign policy. Together, Barak and Epstein sought to pressure the Obama administration to intervene more aggressively in Syria or offer concessions to Moscow as part of a deal to facilitate Assad’s departure. At the same time, Epstein expressed frustration over U.S. passivity, particularly regarding Iranian regional influence and nuclear negotiations.

Former Israeli ambassador to Washington Michael Oren recalled that Israel’s diplomatic leadership was told to “avoid being perceived as a player” in the Syrian crisis, opting instead for clandestine influence behind the scenes while Israeli officials denied involvement. Barak and Epstein’s maneuvers, however, point to a far more direct—if covert—role in shaping events, using media coverage and quiet diplomatic outreach in Moscow and Washington to push Israeli strategic priorities.

By 2015, Barak and Epstein revived the backchannel as Barak campaigned against Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, hoping for renewed U.S. strikes on Iranian targets. Their strategy relied heavily on Epstein’s contact network, which included American diplomats, intelligence figures, and foreign heads of state. Drop Site News highlights that “Epstein’s knack for steering the superpowers toward Israel’s interests” rested on his ability to leverage relationships cutting across U.S., Israeli, and Russian intelligence circles.

Despite securing a rare meeting with Putin in the summer of 2013, Barak and Epstein did not succeed in convincing Russia to abandon Assad. Still, documents show their negotiations contributed to the multilateral accord for Syria’s chemical disarmament months later. Barak, for his part, had been publicly optimistic in late 2011 that Assad’s fall was “inevitable,” but as Russia and Iran doubled down, the regime endured beyond initial expectations.

The Drop Site News report also touches on Epstein’s known personal ties to top Israeli officials, including Barak and former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and his financial support for military-linked charities such as Friends of the IDF. Recently surfaced emails released by a pro-Palestinian hacking collective and archived by whistleblower platform Distributed Denial of Secrets add weight to the picture of Epstein as a globe-trotting fixer with deep intelligence links—despite his notoriety in sex trafficking circles.

Epstein’s activities reportedly extended to helping broker Israel’s 2017 security agreement with Mongolia, managing business deals and cyber-technology introductions that “laid the foundation for official Israeli security deal-making.” While the full scope of Epstein’s function as an agent or facilitator for Mossad remains hotly debated, the documents from Drop Site News push the boundary of public knowledge regarding collaboration between elite intelligence, diplomacy, and off-the-books financial operations.

As Barak and Epstein’s maneuvering inside Russian and American power circles continues to surface, new questions arise about the intersection of covert diplomacy, intelligence gathering, and the shadowy world of private power brokers. With the Syrian civil war’s legacy still haunting the region, the full story of Epstein’s role may not yet be told.
