The Trump Administration is prepping to carry out mass arrests of illegal aliens within 24 hours of Trump’s inauguration on Monday, according to an explosive report from the Wall Street Journal.

According to the report, the new administration is planning to carry out a large-scale raid in Chicago as early as Tuesday. Immigration officials plan to first target individuals with criminal backgrounds or existing deportation orders as part of a broader effort to “take the handcuffs off” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Citing four people familiar with the plans, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Chicago operation will last throughout the first week of the Trump Administration, while ICE is expected to deploy upwards of 200 officers to carry out arrests.

A separate source seemed to confirm the report in a statement to Reuters. “We’re going to be doing operations all across the country,” the unnamed individual told the outlet when asked about the Wall Street Journal report. The separate source did push back on the report that special emphasis would be placed on an immigration raid in Chicago, however. “You’re going to see arrests in New York. You’re going to see arrests in Miami,” they said.

Incoming Border Czar Tom Homan during his tenure as ICE Director

Tom Homan, who will be tasked with overseeing mass deportation and border security efforts in the new administration, was asked about the possibility of a “big raid” in Chicago on Tuesday during an appearance on Fox News.

“There’s going to be a big raid across the country. Chicago is just one of many places. We’ve got 24 field offices across the country. On Tuesday, ICE is finally going to go out and do their job. We’re going to take the handcuffs off ICE and let them go arrest criminal aliens, that’s what’s going to happen,” the incoming border czar  said. “What we’re telling ICE, you’re going to enforce the immigration law without apology. You’re going to concentrate on the worst first, public safety threats first, but no one is off the table. If they’re in the country illegally, they got a problem,” he said.

President-elect Trump has long vowed to carry out mass deportation operations immediately upon assuming office, starting with violent criminals and those with outstanding deportation orders. There are currently more than 7 million individuals on ICE’s non-detained docket. “The administration has been clear that we’re going to start arresting people on day one, and Chicago’s probably not going to be the only place that arrests are going to be made,” a separate source told Fox News.

The impending raids come as several Democrat officials in “sanctuary” states and cities — which defy federal immigration law by refusing to cooperate with ICE on deportation operations — have claimed they will “resist” the Trump Administration when it comes to deportations. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is among them  as the potential immigration raid in Chicago looms.

“One who intends to come take away the freedom and opportunity and dignity of Illinoisans, I would remind you that a happy warrior is still a warrior. You come for my people, you come through me,” the governor told MSNBC last month.

“Game on,” Homan said without hesitation after listening to Pritzker’s comments. “Game on, we’ve got no problem going through him. I got 20,000 men and women in ICE are going to do their job with no apology. Congress has enacted a law that protects this country.”
