Christine Pelosi, the daughter of retiring Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), announced she’s running for California state Senate.
After the former House speaker announced her retirement, there was much speculation that her daughter would attempt to replace her.
“In courtrooms, campaigns and corridors of power, I’ve fought to build Power For The People. And that’s why I’m running for California Senate,” the younger Pelosi said.

More from the New York Post:
Christine, one of Pelosi’s five children with husband Paul, had kept her plans quiet until Monday.
“I’m running to represent San Francisco in Sacramento, fighting for consumer rights, women’s rights, gun violence survivors, immigrants and our most vulnerable communities, against the threat we face,” she declared in her 42-second campaign launch video.
“What do we do when our freedoms are under attack? We speak up, we fight back and we organize power for the people, and that’s what I want to do for you.”
Christine has been involved with the Democratic National Committee since 1996, and has served on its executive committee panel since 2017.
Had she run for Congress and won, she would have been a third-generation House member — joining her mother and her maternal grandfather, the late Rep. Thomas D’Alesandro Jr. (D-Md.).
Ahead of the announcement, some California Democratic sources told The Post that Christine Pelosi would likely have fallen victim to the anti-establishment mood in the party — as well as concerns about her lack of experience in elected office.
According to Newsweek, the younger Pelosi is attempting to replace California State Senator Scott Wiener, who is running for the former speaker’s seat.
“It’s official: I’m running for Congress to represent San Francisco! I’ll fight Trump’s takeover, for our values, & for real progress. I’ve delivered on housing, healthcare, clean energy, and civil rights – and I’ll do it again,” Wiener said last month.
“Let’s build the future our city & country deserve,” he added.

The California primary for Nancy Pelosi’s seat is on June 2, 2026.
“If Wiener gains the candidacy, then his seat would open up for Christine Pelosi to run,” Newsweek stated.

Newsweek shared:
Christine Pelosi, 59, said Monday she would run for State Senate, having already held a prominent role in the state’s Democratic Party as Women’s Caucus Chair from 2011 through 2021.
She has also spent time within the federal government, working as Special Counsel at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development at the end of the Clinton administration, and as Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative John Tierney from 2001-2005.
