Ronnie Platt, the lead singer for “Kansas,” recently announced that he has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The diagnosis comes as the rock band has been forced to cancel multiple shows.

In a statement to Fox News, Platt confirmed that he met with his doctor following his thyroid cancer diagnosis and is currently scheduled for surgery on March 4.

“So far, the prognosis has been very good,” Platt said. “I’m looking forward to getting this behind me and being back in the saddle as soon as possible. I appreciate the outpouring of support I’ve been receiving. Thank you.”

Last Saturday, the 64-year-old singer announced his thyroid cancer diagnosis in a post on Facebook.

“For all of you asking, Tuesday I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but before everyone gets all excited, it has a 99% survival rate, it has not spread,” Platt wrote. “It’s contained to my thyroid. I just have to have my thyroid removed. Go through some rehab time and be right back in the saddle.”

“I sincerely appreciate everyone’s positive thoughts and prayers,” the rock star added. “I have some absolutely amazing people going to bat for me!! as it has been put to me, this is just a bump in the road and will be behind me very soon! so everyone please CARRY ON!”

News of Platt’s cancer diagnosis comes after the band was forced to reschedule shows last Friday and Saturday due to “band illness and doctor advisement.” The band also announced that an additional show in March would be rescheduled following Platt’s post on Facebook.

“Due to band illness and doctor advisement, the upcoming KANSAS show on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Lake Charles, LA has been cancelled,” Kansas stated on Instagram. “The band apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes to be back on the road soon.”

In a statement to Ultimate Classic Rock, J.R. Rees, the band’s assistant manager, said the goal is for the band to “be back on the road as soon as possible” but that the band is currently “all focused on supporting Ronnie through this.”
