First Lady Melania Trump rang in her 55th trip around the sun this weekend alongside President Donald Trump at the funeral for Pope Francis.

As the New York Post reported:

The Trumps arrived in Italy on Friday for the first international trip of his second term, and just in time for Melania’s 55th birthday, which also fell on Saturday.

“She’s got a working birthday,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Friday.

“I’ll take her for dinner on the Boeing,” Trump joked when asked how they would be celebrating. “I’ll take her for dinner on Air Force One.”

Before heading to Rome, Trump praised the late pontiff as a “good man” who “loved the world.”

“I thought he was a fantastic kind of guy,” Trump said.

A slew of high-profile guests were on hand to pay their respects, though much of the coverage and attention circled around the president and First Lady.

Reports early Saturday also signaled a potential breakthrough in talks between the U.S. and Ukraine in the lead-up to the pope’s funeral.

According to Sky News:

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his meeting with Donald Trump ahead of the Pope’s funeral could prove to be “historic” if it leads to peace in his country’s war with Russia.

The US and Ukrainian presidents had a “very productive discussion”, according to a White House official, in their first face-to-face encounter since a very public row in the Oval Office in February.
