While watching Canadian politicians squeal like stuck pigs might be even more fun than watching Dem politicians do it, Pierre makes an important point here… in the big-picture long term, anyway.

A solid relationship between Canada and the US is better than a permanent rupture where Canada falls into the political and economic orbit of the CCP.

Elected leaders in Canada at the provincial and federal level have been trying to out-do each other in displaying their ‘elbows up’ defiance of what has been historically their largest economic trading partner, and it isn’t even close.

Trump has been using some aggressive negotiating tactics to open access to Canadian markets in which some significant non-tariff trade barriers had existed to keep American goods at a competitive disadvantage.

Rather than take a page from other countries, who chose to look for the best win-win arrangements that could be made with a negotiating partner that was clearly holding all the cards, they chose the path of petulance. As a result, after placing punitive tariffs on goods from specifically red states, and blocking outright the sale of products like bourbon, they have watched helplessly as manufacturing moved their operations south of the 49th parallel.

Maybe Trump was happy to have a self-righteous Big Lib win the Canuck election so he could Kamikaze the entire economy in a fit of pique. Trump sure didn’t do the Conservative (by Canadian standards) Pierre Poilievre any favors in their elections about a year ago.

But he’s one of the few voices of reason North of the border.

Whether he’ll ever have a chance to become leader of Canada as we now know it will depend on what happens with the Canadian economy imploding as we see not one, but two provinces showing a serious interest in a referendum on secession.

And one of those promises, Alberta, is the piggy bank the rest of Canada has been raiding relentlessly, while giving little if anything to show for it.
