The future of the “King of the Hill” reboot set to debut later this summer hit another tragic snag this week. Another beloved member of the voice cast for the hit series has passed away.
Jonathan Joss, who voiced the character of Native American John Redcorn, was shot and killed by a neighbor on Sunday night. He was 59.
The incident occurred in San Antonio, Texas. The native Texan was pronounced dead on the scene by local paramedics who attempted to revive Joss but could not resuscitate him. The voice actor was shot multiple times by an unidentified neighbor after a heated argument.
Police were able to catch the suspect a block away from where the shooting took place. The suspect was in his vehicle. Law enforcement officials are still speaking with witnesses to find out the cause of the argument.
Last Saturday, Joss posted a video for his 9,000 followers on social media to come see him at Tribe Comics and Games in Austin, Texas, for a fan signing. In the clip, Joss appeared in good spirits.
The following day, the “King of the Hill” star posted a thank you to his fans for helping him get a ride back to San Antonio.
Joss, a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University, was last credited on IMDB for doing voice work for CD Projekt RED’s game “Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty” in 2023, where he worked alongside Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba.
He is also known for providing the voice for Healing in the animated drama from Paul McComas and Holly Trasti, “Unplugged.” The series also featured Christina Ricci, the late Ed Asner, and Star Trek’s Jeri Ryan.
However, the role that truly made his career is that of John Redcorn on “King of the Hill.” The character had a 14-year-long affair with weather woman Nancy Hicks-Gribble, the wife of conspiracy theorist extraordinaire, Dale Gribble.
Joss, in a now-deleted social media post, said that he felt “shut out” of the “King of the Hill” reunion at the ATX TV Festival in Austin last week. The event was attended by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, co-creators of the series, along with actors Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom, and Toby Huss.
Earlier this year, Joss lost his three beloved dogs after his childhood home, which his own father built, burned to the ground. He also lost his car in the fire, but a GoFundMe was started and raised $10,721 out of a $15,000 goal to help him recover from the incident.
