Judge John McConnell hasn’t given up his judicial activism, and doesn’t seem like he has any intentions of doing so.
Back in March, President Trump signed a slew of Executive Orders backing his Administration’s push to cut the pork from the federal government.
There were three primary points that made up the criteria when they centered on what to cut:
- Is it wasteful or efficient?
- Is it full of corruption?
- Is it the job of the federal government to begin with?
Entire federal agencies have been gutted down to fighting weight, and some have been put on the chopping block all together.
This is what the American people voted for. This is a BIG reason why President Trump is living in the White House right now.
But the same judge who once threated to arrest President Trump and Officials in his Administration if he didn’t unfreeze funds destined for USAID payouts is at it again.
In fact, he’s never let up. And now he’s doubling down on his apparent insistence that judges are more powerful than Presidents!
An Obama-appointed judge John J McConnell has reportedly threatened President Trump with arrest if he does not reinstate all the funding he had previously paused.
Since when does a judge have the authority to override a President’s actions in this way? pic.twitter.com/iklIGMhXTn

That same judge has now blocked the Trump Administration’s funding cuts to 3 different agencies destined for elimination from the federal government.
The federal agencies in question are the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, and the Minority Business Development Agency.
And even if you’re all gung-ho for any or all of those agencies… the fact is they are NOT within the Constitutional lane of the federal government!
And we FINALLY have an Executive in the Oval Office who is listening to those who have been singing that anthem for far too long with no pushback against the federal government’s overreach into EVERY aspect of life!
Have I mentioned that Judge McConnell has funny money ties to Democrat organizations, including those that he ORDERED President Trump to keep the federal dollars flowing in to?
That’s a clear-cut conflict of interest and an obvious reason to recuse himself if ever there was a reason… but he never did.
How would he have continued his lawfare if he’d recused himself from those other cases?
Here’s a question: When 21 Democratic-led states brought a lawsuit against the Trump Administration for cutting funding to federal agencies that operate in their states, were they…
Let’s play a multiple-choice game with the rest of that sentence:
A. …rising up to fight against President Trump’s illegitimate use of Executive authority in defense of the Constitutional rights of their constituents?
B. …rising up to ensure FEDERAL FUNDS kept flowing in to their states irrespective of the fact that most of the programs were racist, full of corruption, and not at all within line with the Constitutional role of the federal government?
If you chose answer ‘A’, there is a good chance you landed on this website by accident when you meant to click on your favorite re-runs of “The View”.
But if you chose answer ‘B’, you’re my tribe and you know what’s up.
And wouldn’t you know it — Judge John McConnell of Rhode Island completely agreed that these states should be able to DEMAND that these FEDERAL AGENCIES remain open, and be fully funded!
After all, he’s a judge; far more powerful and superior to any President. (In case you’re new and decided to stick with us rather than clicking back over to “The View”… just know that was level 10 sarcasm, and I don’t believe a word of it.)
But that’s exactly what Judge McConnell has proven time and time again that he believes, and so he blocked the Trump Administration’s planned dismantling of three agencies, according to a report in The Hill:
A federal judge on Tuesday blocked President Trump’s dismantling of three federal agencies that support libraries, museums, minority businesses and mediation services.
“It also disregards the fundamental constitutional role of each of the branches of our federal government; specifically, it ignores the unshakable principles that Congress makes the law and appropriates funds, and the Executive implements the law Congress enacted and spends the funds Congress appropriated,” McConnell wrote.
The lawsuit stems from Trump’s March 14 executive order that sought to eliminate seven federal agencies, part of his sweeping efforts to slash wide swaths of the federal bureaucracy. The order has quickly led to mass layoffs, grant freezes and other sweeping reductions at the agencies.
It isn’t the first time McConnell, an appointee of former President Obama who serves in Rhode Island, has blocked Trump’s efforts to freeze aspects of federal spending.
The judge previously blocked the administration from implementing a planned across-the-board freeze on federal grants, a ruling that sparked calls for his impeachment from one House Republican.
This is also the same judge that caught the most fire from Elon Musk for his history of social activism from the bench.
Here’s a quick news clip from a few months ago when the crescendo of activist judges was really coming up to speed:
And Elon is 100% dead center right on this — Judge McConnell is far more an activist than he is a judge.
As I stated earlier, he has a HISTORY of making sure federal money keeps flowing in to his states; and specifically that the ORGANIZATIONS that benefit from a lot of that money keep getting paid…
Particularly when he is a member in one way or another of those PAID organizations!
Check out this post recently shared by journalist Mario Nawfal who highlighted America First Legal’s findings on the ‘good’ judge:

ACTIVIST JUDGE WHO BLOCKED TRUMP’S SPENDING FREEZE HAS HIDDEN MONEY TIES
Federal Judge John McConnell failed to disclose his role at Crossroads Rhode Island while ruling against Trump’s spending freeze.
His non-profit received $128M in government funding during his 18-year board tenure, including $42M from 2020-2023.
Rhode Island, a plaintiff in the case, already sent his organization $2.9M in 2025.
The judge ordered federal funds to keep flowing to states—and coincidentally, to his own non-profit.
Federal law requires judges to recuse themselves when their impartiality might be questioned.
Wonder why he didn’t.
Millions of dollars is a good reason NOT to recuse yourself from a case where you can hold sway over your own profits.
But that’s also just about as corrupt as you can get without crossing over into Epstein territory.
And no — I don’t know of any Judge McConnell / Epstein connections, but it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that exists, too.
But I do have even more family-business conflicts of interest with the judge and his daughter, dug up by Laura Loomer:
EXCLUSIVE:

It should have been obvious to anyone with a brain that this judge should not be involved in these cases!
Here’s the full text of Loomer’s case against the judge for easier viewing:
Judge John McConnell, the federal judge from Rhode Island who ordered the Trump admin and DOGE to unfreeze billions of dollars in federal grants has a daughter who currently works for the US Department of Education as a senior policy advisor and was appointed by @JoeBiden on Feb 14, 2022, which is a CONFLICT OF INTEREST since Trump and DOGE are planning to defund the Department of Education
John J. McConnell Jr., Chief judge of the U.S. district court in Rhode Island, ordered the Trump administration to “immediately restore frozen funding” and accused the Trump admin today of failing to comply with his prior order to unfreeze funding.
The reason why Judge McConnell, a Democrat donor and activist wants Trump to restore funding is because his daughter, Catherine McConnell, is currently employed by the same Department of Education that President Trump and @elonmusk
want to audit and DEFUND. She was appointed by Joe Biden and now her Dad is abusing his power to protect her paycheck. This is a conflict of interest that Judge McConnell should have recused himself over, but he chose not to. He ruled against President Trump and abused his judicial power to protect his daughter’s livelihood at the bloated US Department of Education.
Why do all of these Judges who hate President Trump have conflicts of interests with their Democrat daughters?
OAN’s Chanel Rion came after Judge McConnell back in February when he was part of the first wave of activist judges who started this ongoing pattern of trying to thwart the legitimate agenda of President Trump in the courts.
Here’s a GREAT clip of Rion covering the REALITY of separation of powers with “King Judge McConnell” in mind:
His Royal Highness Judge McConnell out of Rhode Island is STANDING UP to Trump.
What’s this Obama judge going to do if Trump IGNORES him?
Send in the Rhode Island National Guard? pic.twitter.com/BN6AMHErrL

Natalie Winters, with Bannon’s War Room, also dug up piles of dirt on this guy.
Not only does Judge McConnell flat out liken President Trump’s first term to the Civil War and Jim Crow era, calling him a tyrant in video Winters found from 2021…
LAWFARE: The Obama-appointed judge that threatened the Trump administration with arrest if funding was not restored to USAID previously likened Trump’s first term to the Civil War and Jim Crow and compared Trump to a tyrant in 2021 video footage uncovered by @nataliegwinters.… https://t.co/I58YHtA7xv pic.twitter.com/EIVOCnohzh

But he ALSO is of the opinion that it’s OKAY for judges to allow their personal opinions to influence their rulings!
Judge McConnell insists that it’s okay for judges to let personal opinions influence their decisions.

Winters really dug deep on Judge McConnell a few months ago after the judge basically proclaimed himself more powerful than the Executive Branch with his rulings against the Trump Administration.
She found a lot of old footage of McConnell openly sharing his activist mindset.
Winters also discovered that he believed those claiming to be transgendered needed “special sentencing privileges” — among other things!
Here’s a great thread to cover from front to back if you really want a good look at just how ACTIVIST — and not at all like a JUDGE — McConnell really is:
EXC – I’ve unearthed footage from 2021 where the judge blocking the Trump spending freeze accuses Trump of being a “tyrant,” claims racism is a “white people problem,” and insists transgenders need special sentencing privileges.
This is an activist not a judge.

Meanwhile, the Trump Administration’s authority continues to be thwarted and put on hold by a single judge who has made it his mission to oppose President Trump.
And his injunction now prohibits the Administration from moving forward with his Executive Order regarding the cuts to these three wasteful, corrupt, and overreaching agencies.
That’s apparently going to be the status-quo, at least until such time as the courts can decide if the President has the authority, according to a report in Newsweek:
On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge John McConnell, Jr. in Rhode Island barred Trump from unilaterally ending the funding and programs for three agencies that fund museums and libraries, mediate labor disputes and support minority-owned businesses.
The affected agencies are the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Minority Business Development Agency, and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
The agencies, established by Congress, carried out the cuts under the direction of an executive order from Trump issued on March 14.
In Tuesday’s preliminary injunction, McConnell said the actions were likely “arbitrary and capricious” because the agencies were not able to provide more than “vague” justifications for the sweeping cuts.
Rhode Island attorney general Peter Neronha said that the preliminary injunction was “a critical win for the public interest.”
He added: “When the Trump Administration attempts to dismantle these agencies, it is making a targeted, concerted effort to prohibit everyday people from accessing their full potential.”
McConnell stopped Trump’s order from being implemented at the three agencies pending the outcome of the case.
When you realize that this judge fully believes that it’s okay for his OPINION to inform his judicial rulings, the fact that the woke version of FORCED DIVERSITY is also of supreme importance to him starts to make more sense.
Oh yes — he’s in that camp, too.
For example, he fully believes that the only way to keep FAIRNESS in the courts is to DIVERSIFY the courts with DEI policies — pack the courts with DIVERSITY-CENTRIC appointments.
Otherwise… how are minorities and those who have alternate views going to be treated fairly?
That’s truly how he thinks! Just watch this clip and see for yourself:
Judge McConnell then dunks on President Trump for not hiring enough racially diverse judges. pic.twitter.com/FgkrONWIv0

Once you accept that your OPINION is more important that the TRUTH — than the FACTS — at that point, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a judge, law enforcement, a sacker at the grocery store, or just a lowly news writer…
At that point, you have abandoned the ability to operate realistically in CONTROLING your emotions, and treating people objectively how they should be treated, as opposed to how you might “feel” in that moment about them.
And not only that — you abandon your ABILITY to CARE about controlling your runaway emotions (should read: SINFUL FLESH).
That’s part of the insidious nature of what Elon has called the “woke mind virus”.
Progressivism is dangerous, because it props up and makes PROVISION for the sinful flesh and self-centered mindsets of human nature that all manifest themselves primarily through EMOTIONAL DECISIONS.
And it therefore leads to making no provision for OBJECTIVE TRUTH and REALITY — only excuses for why those are problems to be overcome to make ALLOWANCES for our runaway emotions and the twisted fantasies that grow out of them once we give them a blanket excuse to rule in our minds.
No one with that mindset, effectively unwilling to deal in terms of objective reality, should EVER be allowed to wear judge’s robes.
And Judge McConnell is a supreme candidate for impeachment and removal if ever there was one.
