I’m not sure who at this point could deserve receiving the Nobel Peace Prize over President Trump.

Just hours after President Trump announced phase 1 of a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas was completed, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu called for President trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

In phase 1 of the peace agreement which aims to end the war in Gaza immediately, Hamas agreed to release all Israeli hostages and Israel agreed to withdraw a portion of their troops in Gaza.

Take a look:

Politico reported more on Netanyahu’s statement and the historic peace agreement:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday gave his renewed endorsement to U.S. President Donald Trump to win the Nobel Peace Prize as the end of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza comes into view.

“Give Donald Trump the Nobel Peace Prize — he deserves it!” Netanyahu’s account posted on X, accompanied by a gold medal emoji and an illustration of the triumphant U.S. president accepting an award and applause from a crowd.

The Norwegian committee will announce the winner of the storied prize, which Trump has long coveted, on Friday.

On Wednesday, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a U.S.-proposed peace deal aimed at ending the prolonged Gaza conflict, which includes the release of all Israeli hostages held by the Palestinian militant group and a partial Israeli troop withdrawal from Gaza.

The war, ignited by Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack that killed around 1,200 people on Israeli soil, has left more than 67,000 Palestinians dead, making it the bloodiest conflict between the two sides since Israel’s founding.

Netanyahu originally nominated Trump for the award in July, citing America’s role in striking Iran’s nuclear program and brokering the cease-fire that ended the fighting between the Middle Eastern adversaries. “It’s well deserved, and you should get it,” Netanyahu told Trump during a meeting at the White House on July 7.

BBC broke down phase 1 of the peace agreement in greater detail:

Once the agreement is formally approved – as expected – by the Israeli cabinet, a ceasefire will take effect. Reports in Israeli media suggest this will happen immediately, although a spokesperson for the prime minister’s office said it would begin within 24 hours of the cabinet’s approval.

The Israeli military will withdraw to a line that will leave it in control of about 53% of the Strip, the spokesperson said. According to a map distributed by the White House last week, this is the first of three stages of Israeli withdrawal.

The Israeli military said on Thursday that preparations were under way to “transition to adjusted deployment lines soon”.

After this, a 72-hour countdown will begin during which Hamas must release all 20 of the hostages believed to be alive. The return of the bodies of the 28 deceased hostages would follow, although it is not clear how long that could take.

Israel would then release about 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences in Israeli jails and 1,700 detainees from Gaza, a Palestinian source told the BBC. Their identities are currently unclear, but a list submitted by Hamas before the agreement was reached included high-profile figures serving multiple life sentences for deadly attacks on Israelis.

One of the most high-profile prisoners, Marwan Barghouti, will not be released as part of the swap, according to the Israeli spokesperson.

Israel will also return the bodies of 15 Gazans for the remains of each Israeli hostage, according to Trump’s plan.

Hundreds of lorries carrying humanitarian aid will also start entering Gaza, where a famine was confirmed by UN-backed experts in August.
