On Good Friday Operation Rescue received some good news: In response to the complaint we filed earlier this month, the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) has opened an investigation into the death of Lexi Arguello.

Lexi Arguello was 18-years-old and reportedly 22 weeks pregnant when she experienced severe complications during a second trimester abortion committed at Planned Parenthood Fort Collins in Colorado. Reportedly, Lexi developed an amniotic fluid embolism – a life-threatening complication that can occur in second or third trimester abortions as well as during delivery.

“Abortion took the lives of two people that day – Lexi and her unborn child,” says Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “We believe both deserve justice.”

Currently, Colorado does not require abortion clinics to undergo any of the same inspections or maintain any of the same licensing required by all other ambulatory centers in the state.

Sarah Neely, Chief Operating Officer for Operation Rescue, comments, “With no licensing or inspection requirements for these clinics, Colorado citizens have nowhere to turn when concerns or evidence of wrongdoing arise regarding an abortion clinic. In other states, a dangerous clinic runs the risk of being shut down and losing its license. In Colorado, an abortion clinic could injure countless patients and run no risk of discipline from the state at all. It’s incredibly unsettling.”

Despite this obstacle, Operation Rescue was still able to file a complaint against the abortionists involved with the Fort Collins Planned Parenthood, who are, in fact, licensed and regulated by the state.

“Our complaint asks the Medical Board within DORA to investigate two basic questions,” says Neely. “Did the abortionist performing this late-term abortion fail to recognize or acknowledge the severity of Lexi’s complications, and was there an intentional delay of care, even while knowing this facility was not equipped to deal with such a dire and complex complication as amniotic fluid embolism?”

“We are thankful that DORA has opened an investigation into these crucial questions. We trust the Board will be just as thorough and impartial as it might be with any other case. Lexi deserves that, as do the many concerned citizens in the state of Colorado.”

Operation Rescue will continue pursuing every legal venue to hold Planned Parenthood accountable for any wrongdoing in the death of this young girl. You can follow any news or developments about Lexis’ case on our new Facebook page, Justice for Lexi.
