Ilhan Omar’s speech was interrupted by an alleged attacker who sprayed her with a mystery substance. Are you taking the reporting at face value or throwing a flag?

Let’s start with the known facts of the event itself. Ilhan Omar, who is herself at the center of an investigation not only for criminal violations of immigration law, but for suspicion of corruption or fraud in a case that was first opened during the Biden years, announced she would be giving a town-hall style speech addressing ICE. It was no secret what she would be saying, she’s been saying the same things since she first rolled into DC with ‘the Squad’.

During her speech, a man carrying a syringe filled with some kind of a noxious substance approached her and sprayed her with its contents before armed security was able to intervene.

The man was apprehended, and is now in custody. Which is good, since all the conservatives in my timeline are calling for this guy to be criminally charged, under whatever proper statutes might apply.

After the attack, Omar made some statements about not being deterred from [whichever anti-ICE narrative she came to beat the drum for], dropped a couple of f-bombs and said something about Minnesota strong.

The guy is now in custody and being held without bail.

Again, if a crime was committed, charges ought to follow. If only Minnesota felt the same about all criminal activity. His voting record is irrelevant. His political leanings (if it turns out he has any) are also irrelevant.

More will probably be known by the time this story goes live than what we know as of the deadline, but for now, we have only sketchy details to go by.

Data Republican, who has had her finger on the pulse of a lot of large-scale Dem shenanigans and dark-money funding thereof has given 2 of the three possible understandings of the situation. I contend that there is one more that she has overlooked.

Here is her assessment:

While some posts have been produced to make him seem pro-MAGA, let’s not forget we’ve seen that trick played before, in cases where their motives — very much on the hard left — were not so murky as we had been led to believe. At least one instance has been produced where someone with the same name sounds like he was (at minimum) in the NeverTrump camp.

Here’s one detail that could serve to bolster her claims.

And are we all supposed to ignore the fact that he was right there in the front row and we have footage of him from just before the attack?

But coming back to the original question: is DataRepublican right to say there are no other options?

There’s actually (at minimum) one more… and it’s one that the Right might do well to remember in future such conversations.

The political left, has — just off the top of my head — bitten the finger off of an ICE agent, fired guns at ICE or Border Patrol in various locations and cities, shot Charlie Kirk dead in broad daylight (while cheering about it), cheered the murder of a lady Blackrock Executive by a gunman who was trying to target the NFL, turned a coward who shot a father of two in the back into a video-game themed folk hero, and made multiple attempts to murder the duly-elected President of the United States. None other than Tim Walz has expressed open and public disappointment that the rumour of his untimely death was a false rumour, comforting himself that some day, the news will be true.

As we speak, a medical professional has been put on leave because she was giving online advice on how to poison ICE agents in service of the cause.

The non-response of Ilhan Omar to the threat she faced could have another explanation. She knows that, as a card-carrying member of the revolutionary left, the people who have truly embraced the tactic of lawless violence would never target an ally.

It’s a tacit admission that at worst, the right would use scare tactics to disrupt, because we’re not the type that throws Molotovs.

Is he a patsy, a performer, or a useful idiot that the left will exploit?

It’s a little early to say, isn’t it. But do any of us, who have seen the hecklers’ veto (whether this kind, or the loud and angry mob kind) shut down one conservative event after another think the police would have arrested and held without bail an aggressor who tried the same stunt on, say, Kristi Noem or Tom Homan?

Or even an elected Republican like the whistleblowers who have been trying like hell to make someone — anyone! — care about the billions of dollars worth of fraud in Minnesota?

Think what you want, but we’re pretty sure we know the answer to that question.
