Although few conservatives would’ve predicted it when he was elected to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate, Democrat John Fetterman has become one of his party’s most reasonable and bipartisan voices over the past couple of years.

That trend continued late last week, when he reacted to some controversial moves taken over the previous few days by members of his party.

Fox News reported on the social media statement he released on Friday:

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa. — who, in the wake of President Donald Trump’s address before a joint session of Congress, accused his own party of “a sad cavalcade of self owns and unhinged petulance” — issued a tweet on Friday in which he once again called out Democrats.

“#TheResistance,” he wrote, going on to list, “Snub a 13 year-old cancer survivor,” “Joint Address Protest Paddle Bonanza” and “Bizarre ‘Pick Your Fighter’ videos.”

“Hold our beer: Government Shutdown!” he continued, cautioning, “Never, never, never vote for a shutdown—ever.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Fetterman’s office to request a comment from the lawmaker on Friday, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

Trump honored 13-year-old DJ Daniel during the address this week, noting that Daniel, who wants to become a police officer, was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018.

“I am asking our new Secret Service Director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service,” Trump told the young man.

It was a “touching moment,” Fetterman told Nicholas Ballasy for Fox News Digital earlier this week.

The first three items on his list had already been widely criticized online:

As for the government shutdown threat, Fetterman’s post cited a Politico article that reported:

Senate Democrats have a fast-approaching dilemma: Vote for a spending bill unilaterally drafted by House Republicans or engage in the kind of shutdown brinkmanship they’ve long opposed.

It isn’t a decision they’ll be able to put off for much longer. House GOP leaders are poised early next week to send a bill to the floor that would largely hold current spending levels in place through the end of September. Democrats don’t like this approach, arguing it would only further empower President Donald Trump and Elon Musk to continue to act beyond their authority in clawing back congressionally approved dollars.

In the House, Democrats are vowing to hold back support, arguing that Republicans are responsible for finding the votes for a continuing resolution, or CR, after walking away from negotiations with the minority party.

It’s not so simple in the Senate, where Democratic leaders are being more careful to avoid promising blanket opposition to a relatively “clean” stopgap bill ahead of the March 14 shutdown deadline. Privately, leaders have urged their members to stay silent and force Republicans to come up with a palatable plan.

Here’s some additional coverage of Fetterman’s willingness to speak out against his fellow Democrats:
